What would you rate the JSU 2023 Football Season. 1 bring the worse and 10 being the best. I would rate it a 9.8, I wanted a bowl win within 3 years, well we got that year 1. Key is we only lost to teams better than us, quarter back play was struggle but other than that, our defense was nasty.

9.5! Really proud of this team, wish we could have beaten South Carolina or one of the other 3 teams we lost to

10 because we did better than what I thought we would do. I hope we do not lose anyone and we can build upon or match the results next year.
The coastal game I wish we could have back and have ten wins . But still we did better than what I thought we would do . I hope we can make a bowl next year .

I can't give the team a 10, simply because of all the sloppy play that cost us in a few games and almost blew it for us against LALa.
(Three turnovers returned to the end zone is simply unacceptable.)
Of course, we finished our first FBS season with 9 wins, we made it to a bowl, and we won it. So I can't judge them too harshly.
I'll call it a 9.5.
But they'd better fix that last half point or I'll be calling for Rich Rod's job.
(That's a joke, folks. I promise.)
But yeah... 9.5 sounds about right.

The season... a 10, as it surpassed my expectations to such a dramatic degree. Holy cow, 9-4+ first ever bowl win!!!
But... I give our individual game by game play 8.5, which would seem to make no sense, but maybe it's an example of the season being greater than the sum of its parts. There were so many games that I would get so angry at overthrown passes to wide open receivers, fumbles, etc., I'd have to get up and leave the room. The South Carolina game had me walking around my driveway for a good 5 minutes on the last pick six as we were driving to either tie or take the lead. We were lucky to win the UTEP game (their QB had a guy wide open in the middle of the field when he threw his INT at the end) & the Sammy game and both teams were less than mediocre.
I'd give the season's game ball (as well as the Bowl game ball) to our defense. Consistently stellar play, with few missed assignments, penalties or players out of position.

The lack of stupid penalties at critical situations was stealthily prominent, if there can be such a thing. That may have been the biggest single reason for the surprisingly successful season. Not shooting ourselves in the foot with a stupid illegal motion, jump offsides, DPI or unsportsmanlike conduct for a change gave us a chance in almost every game. We were able to overcome those unfortunate mistakes like 3 turnovers returned for TDs, the inaccurate/inconsistent passing game, the occasional blown coverage or missed tackle, and keep fighting through. Now let’s work to improve those areas and the sky’s the limit. I rank team discipline as the biggest improvement over the last two seasons, particularly this season.

A-
We very well could have run the table. We were in every game. A crucial mishap here and there left us with four losses. But no reasonable mind would look at a first-year FBS program going 9-4 and give it anything less than an A. While we certainly punched above our weight, I'm optimistic time will prove we have not overachieved.
Remember this season, friends. There won't be many that feel as special or rewarding.

Loss to SC didn't bother me. SC should have been better also.
Liberty loss didn't bother me.
New Mexico State game didn't bother me.
But JSU has got to be disappointed they didn't do better against Coastal Carolina.
If a 60 is barely a "D" and 70 is now a C- and 80 is now a B- and 90 is now an A-, then I will give the season an 88. Proud of a B+. Really good season.

I think I get what you mean Stevo, but every loss bothers me, especially when we play a team who "should" be better than us, but we play 'em straight up, taking their best shots & give ourselves a chance to win regardless, only to fumble, throw a pick 6, miss an open receiver, pass coverage breaks down late, etc. A win against the lesser Gamecocks would've been big, on several levels, but the same could arguably be said for the other 3 losses as well. Heck, I'm still bummed about the Auburn loss in '15 & though I've heard a lot of folks say we really didn't match up well against the Bison, I'll go to my grave believing that if we'd prepared better, played to our capability, with better play calling, we could've won.
But, as we all know, the word 'fan' comes from the word 'fanatic'. 😁

Stevo Im in agreement the CCU game should have been won. USC had more talent than us. Liberty had more talent than us. NMSU was on par with us and an away game.
After watching ULL v JSU, Im not sure ULL could have won a game in CUSA. La Tech is the only team we played who was on their level. Not counting ETSU since they are FCS. So losing a game to a SBC team is now more disappointing than at the time it occured.
