Cocks had a break through game today.
JSU played outstanding defense today & were very efficient on offense to beat UALR 90-60.
Lots of highlights- Burney had his first double-double. Tandy hit for 25. Nicholson blocked or altered a ton of shots. 15/19 free throws. Shot over 50% from the field.

I have attended several home games and have watched most of the away games on ESPN+, including the one today. The team has made tremendous strides, especially the “Bigs” on this long road trip. Looking forward to January and the start of conference play. Go Jax State Gamecocks!!!

We're getting better every game. I think Tandy is just now getting back in the groove. He's been hurt the last couple of years & not playing that much. The last two games we've played a lot more relaxed.
We're 6-7 right now. But only 7 points from being 10-3. That's what you get with a team that's new. Harper said it early, "We're not the team we'll be in January." He was right. I TRUST RAY!!

Some coaches are great recruiters. Some are great coaches. A very rare few can do both, and wind up at places like Kansas, UNC, and Duke.
I think it's clear Ray Harper is in that second group.
He's a competent, but not "great" recruiter. People don't look at JSU's recruiting classes (in the OVC, ASUN, or CUSA) and say, "THIS IS AN AMAZING SIGNING CLASS!!!"
But man... can he ever coach 'em up.
And I'm 100% OK with that.

Would be interesting to see what would happen if the Trustees would make half the commitment to basketball they have made to football. Almost impossible to recruit with ZERO NIL money.
We may not be championship quality talent wise this year, but I promise you -- We'll show up!! Great players who leave it all on the floor.

Hopefully after we get our football team FBS level like with the new football facility, new field, new video board, visitor side renovation, indoor practice facility, and hopefully new uniforms, our Board of Trustees will invest into the basketball program

And will continue until we can compete with NIL money.
As I posted once before, we had a couple of bigs committed but reneged to play for MTSU for $35k

How much nil money would Jax St need to become a tourney regular? I've been told from someone who should know, MTSU pays $35K across the board in basketball. I was led to believe this is the lower end in CUSA. Doesn't matter because we have ZERO. Which makes it more amazing the job our players & coaches are doin right now. Not to say we won't come out and lay an egg next game, but I doubt it. These players lay it on the line. Right now I don't see us finishing last in conference. Could be an interesting tournament.

Basketball NIl 15 people is more affordable than Football NIL 100 plus people. If we offer one well offer both so how much NIL money does Jax St need?

That depends if the powers that be, aka the Trustees, want to set up funding NIL year to year or an endowment for a certain return to fund NIL.
There is a lot of NIL I don't understand.

As it stands, that is until things change we will have to pay a base salary to keep players in general. Say a place kicker. We will never afford million dollar players or players headed to the P5, no need to even try. So how much is a base salary for a G5 level basketball or football player. N X say 150 male players + whatever is required for title 9 compliance. So how much NIL does Jax St need to compete for conference titles?
