That depends if the powers that be, aka the Trustees, want to set up funding NIL year to year or an endowment for a certain return to fund NIL. There is a lot of NIL I don't understand. Universities do not fund NILs. This is not a line item in the athletic budget that the trustees can allocate money to. This is strictly on businesses that want to utilize our players or the collective that fans can contribute to. We have a collective - we just don't have enough people contributing to it.

I completely understand that. Universities don't contribute but they do control.
It's a complete mess right now. Maybe the NCAA will come up with some guidelines or controls the courts will approve. Right now we're at huge disadvantage with ZERO.
I don't have a clue what the answer is. Not sure our trustees do either. But JSU is not alone in this situation. Most G5 schools don't. Can this board afford even one per year? My guess is some just like to pretend they're willing to fund it.

It's not about who funds it It's about how many millions a year does good ole Jax State need to compete. I hear many on here talking about the need for nil money. So how much is necessary? Is it even feasible?

The answer to "How much is necessary?" depends on the level at which we wish to recruit/compete.
Currently our football program uses approximately $25k NIL per month that's funded by donors. That's the bare minimum. To compete against Liberty, et. al., that should be doubled or tripled for starters. We lost OL Bausley for a ridiculous amount of money to a Power 5.
Basketball has no NIL $. We rely on Ray, Tommy, & Marcus to identify & develop talent who are not getting NIL offers. That's a constant uphill battle. We need $10-15k per month minimum to remain relevant.
Baseball lost its best player to Tennessee for $100k & a truck. Our two best infielders left for Auburn for $30k each.
How much is necessary is dictated by how much we want to succeed.

So approximately 100k per month? 1.2 million a year. So how does Jax Sts whomever acquire this much extra if 20k fans show up to 6 games that's 120k people so 10 bucks per game. I'm game so if you can only encourage the other 19999 fans you have it.

Perhaps rather than the 900 club you could just add that money to the nil fund.

Are you ok with not competing for conference championships? I agree that we don't need to be competitive with Power 5 schools, but we have to be competitive within Conference USA and currently we are not.

If a business want to hire them for NIL monies (a job or something of value) fine but Im not giving my money to some kid to play a sport.

Unfortunately, basketball isn't that important at JSU. No need to throw good money away.
Coming in 7th in a 10 team CUSA will be good enough for the JSU administration/board.

If I had to choose it would be basketball. The ROI over time of a NCAA tournament appearance is much more than a bowl.

So the amount we have for football would almost equal what MTSU does for basketball?
