Our weak(ish) OOC schedule artificially inflated our win total this year. We played a respectable 1sst half against Wisc... and then got run off the floor. Too many of our guys just don't hit open shots.
I'm not for calling for Ray's job... but their needs to be clear expectations on Ray if he returns. Losing to FIU, who probably has the same amount of NIL $ for basketball as we so, is UNACCEPTABLE.
Regardless of our record, their needs to be significant / visible signs of progress and player development.

FIU has a NIL program in place. I don't know the size of the pot but anything beats ZERO. We are the only CUSA with zero. '84 is right, Harper is in a sword fight with nothing but a toothpick.

I saw a sports show recently where one of the talking heads made some comments regarding NIL & how a lot of coaches he had spoken with were all struggling with how to move forward in the ever-changing NIL world of college sports. One of the most common criticisms was the loss of a coaches ability to develop players because the traditional culture of respect of a player to his coach is being lost in the storm of money raining down. The coaches say they're walking a fine line in discipline (required for player development) because they've already experienced players talking back & insinuating they'll "take their game to another school". Player development traditionally has been a multi -season process for a player but how can a coach develop players who they may not have in their system but one or two seasons & have no respect for what the coach is trying to teach? I can't remember the name, but I read about a kid who was trying to sign with his 4th(!) school.

The inmates are certainly running the asylum right now, and it's only going to get worse for schools like ours. A complete lack of governance and shortsightedness has removed fairness and loyalty from college sports. Shameful how all parties are behaving right now. At this rate, soon you won't even have to attend classes because you don't identify as a "student athlete".

We were having trouble developing players long before NIL. It's been 20+ years of one and dones.

I think Harper gets one more year to get it together before we move on. We need to have a better OOC schedule because playing jr colleges and NAIA schools before Christmas isn't doing us any favors. They played Wisconsin and West Virginia and some other pretty good teams.
You might want to reevaluate West Virginia. 9-22
