If the college football game reaches a point where players are signing contracts as employees of the university, with trades, sitting out over contract negotiations, millionaire players disrespecting coaches, rules changed to reflect NFL rules, class attendance optional, graduation rates falling, NFL-like celebrations after sacks, TD's, ad nauseam, would you still watch?

I assume you are speaking of a power 5 football and I have basically already stopped watching. I probably haven’t watched a full game of Power 5 football in 3 years. If it’s on, I may tune in for a little but I quickly lose interest. Probably a combination of being older and losing interest and my only real rooting interest being JSU.

players ... signing contracts as employees of the university, with trades, sitting out over contract negotiations, millionaire players disrespecting coaches These items would primarily only affect the P4, and probably only the upper-to-middle tier of the P4. I do think that day is coming, and yes, it would greatly diminish my interest in watching them. These items would affect (at the very least) all of FBS, unless the P2 achieve their ultimate goal of breaking away completely. I think all three would be a detriment to the game. This, too, is coming. I think it will come about as a result of NCAA unsportsmanlike conduct rules being eased to allow it. However, I do think it would be an institutional decision whether or not to allow it. Some coaches will continue to preach the "act like you've been there before" philosophy. Others would allow all manner of choreographed goofiness for "the fans!" or "the kids!" or "the players!" I'd hope beyond hope any team(s) I followed would be in the former group. Act like you've been there before. Leave the shenanigans to the wannabe's of the world. As for the greater question... would I still watch? Well, I grew up a UGA fan. And living in Alabama for the last 34 years, especially in the pre-Internet days, it was tough to watch and/or get news about UGA, so I adopted Bama and Auburn (yes, both, but usually in that order) as secondary and tertiary P5 teams. There was never any indecision about which team to root for when Jax State had one of these on the schedule. JSU was always No. 1. Always. And this system worked well for pretty much my whole life. I didn't have any issue with it, not because the Gamecocks were on a lower level (in our pre-FBS days) but because I felt there was at least some mutual respect between those schools and mine. If we scheduled Auburn or LSU or FSU or Ole Miss or whoever, we'd get a big fat check for our trouble. Sometimes, we'd even come away with a win, which was incredibly cool. But I never felt they were "out to get us" because we served an important purpose in their food chain: giving them a cheap home game which (usually) was a relatively easy win, allowing them to rest their starters and play their bench a bit more than they'd be able to once their conference schedule kicked off. Then the SEC and Big Ten started flexing their wee little P2 muscles, and acting to get far more than their fair share of CFP revenue, and shutting mid-majors out of the NIT tournament, and campaigning to reduce the number of autobids available to mid-majors in the NCAA tourney. And now, I kind of get pissed when I see a UGA, Bama, or Auburn logo. Will I still watch? I dunno. Maybe, if I don't have anything better to do, like rearranging my sock drawer, or organizing my underwear by color. They've pretty much lost me as a fan, and that's before any of the other doomsday predictions even come to pass.

All the NOISE this offseason is loosing me... College /amateur (Olympics) sport was the last real "for the love of the game" group of athletes you could cheer for. Stories of sacrifice outweighing the narrative surrounding contracts and dollars. SPORT, at large, had better wake up to the reality check that average fan CAN'T relate to a players individual finances and are insulted by greed. This is not only the narrative on P2 CFB, it's everywhere, golf, baseball, football, soccer, etc... I'VE STOPPED CARING and will soon stop WATCHING. Also NOBODY is talking about what the long term effects are going to be on the sustainability of the sports not called football. I have some ideas around what schools and non-P2 conferences should do make these sports sustainable and I'll share them at a later date. But no matter what, I will forever support everything JSU.

Yes, p5 (or p4 or p2, or whatever the heck they want to be called). Mostly... but, some of the things in my nightmare scenario could & I think probably would affect JSU & other G5's. I became a Gamecock in the mid-70's after coming here as a freshman, but I grew up a Bama-first fan till I actually enrolled there after transferring from JSU. Then finally switched to a monogamous relationship with Jax State cause I couldn't stand the obnoxious Tide fans & their entitled attitudes. True story, my future wife & I attended a T-Town church in '75 & the Bear was in attendance with whoever was the starting QB. The pastor gushed all over us with Tide Pride, & asked a special prayer for God to make sure the Tide won the following Saturday.

I grew up a Florida fan, and they will always have a special place in my heart, and I will always root for them, but other than them I could care less about the SEC or most of the P5 teams. G5 football to me is far more interesting and exciting! No matter what happens I will forever be a Gamecock and will support JSU in every way I can

Why does everything that goes forward have to go backwards too? Strange times of cancel culture and rewriting history (though some of it is ugly) ... Today, is a far different time. Social media and people creating a personal / player brand has as much to do the state of disarray we're as the stubbornness, lack of foresight, and poor governance by the NCAA. I know NIL isn't not going anywhere, but I'm genuinely tired of everybody having their hand out for doing what they're supposed to do.

I couldn't finish the article. ... "an antitrust lawsuit that seeks billions of dollars in retroactive monetary damages to former athletes for name, image and likeness (NIL) pay." Retroactive?! ... "A settlement is a two-fold issue: Schools are responsible for likely more than $1 billion in back pay, plus must agree to a future compensation model for athletes." Back pay?! Amateur athletics used to represent the best of what sports offered for mankind, from T-ball to college athletics, an outlet for young people to get exercise, learn teamwork, self-sacrifice, self-confidence and not the least, to have fun. This will solidify my designation as an old man yelling at clouds, but as a high school football player in the early 70's, I and my teammates played because it was FUN. When 3 of my teammates were offered scholarships (2 to JSU), we were all jealous because they got to continue playing the sport we loved, but IN ADDITION, got a free college education to boot. That was just awesome to us. When I played little league baseball, we played in a t-shirt, jeans & sneakers, with the only uniform being our caps. Now they have full uniforms, gloves, cleats... the small version of MLB. And sponsors, making some teams uni's resemble NASCAR uni's. My sponsor was my mom who grudgingly agreed to give me an advance on my grass cutting money to buy my cap. End of rant. The clouds are gone. I miss that part of our culture, & mourn its demise.

Sometimes the mom's would work in the consession stand while helped "coach". Once the game was over we couldn't wait to go spend some loose change at the concession stands. Now get off my lawn!!!

Agreed, good info. Would recommend all JSU fans give it a read. Several things stood out for me, but this one... ... At College Football Playoff spring meetings Tuesday, AAC commissioner Mike Aresco dismissed the idea of the G5 doing its own thing. He has long argued that widespread CFP participation is important for the health of the sport and that creating a G5-only format would voluntarily label the leagues as second-class. “It would separate us from the big guys in the CFP, and that would be bad,” Aresco said. “It’s what I’ve always feared, that we’d be in a different division.” I think that ship sailed a long time ago.

Some things happen whether you volunteer or not. I agree that ship has left the port already and Aresco is just to stupid to have noticed. There is a reason for all this upward motion. They ($ec and the big $10) are taking whomever they want and leaving. As long as there is equity behind it Isee it as a real opportunity for the G5 to stop chasing big brother and be there own man. If there is a split and there will be. Let them hang themselves with all this semi pro ball and bring back the football we all love as close as we're allowed to anyway. The g5 can't be called monopolistic if there is another option a student may want to pursue. However like the Olympics we should not allow a professional (paid player) to return to an amateur status.
