There is a rumor that we started spring training. Must just be a rumor because there has been zero coverage so far.

Will there be a Spring game this year? If so, when and what time is it scheduled for? Asking for a friend.

We should have the spring game at the time when softball or baseball in town . Have it as a big event . Like family weekend or future student weekend . But that sounds like marketing .

There have been times in the past when the spring game and a baseball game were on the same day. I went to both games that day. In 2022, the spring game and a softball game against EKU were held the same day. The only problem is, they were also held at the same time. Last year, they moved the spring game to night time and marketed it as "Under the Lights", which was awesome, except that it was on a Thursday night, which hampered attendance by non-local fans. Not sure what the plans are for this year. An "Under the Lights" game on a Friday or Saturday night would be great. Only issue is that if it's around the same time as last year (April 13), the baseball team is on the road. If it's the week before, baseball is at home against FIU, but all those games start at 6 p.m. Softball, though, is home both weekends, April 5-7 against FIU, and April 12-14 against La Tech. For both series, the Friday night games start at 6:00, and the Saturday games start at 1:00. That would rule out an "Under the Lights" Friday night game, but Saturday would be a possibility.

Well that was dumb to hold it at the same time . I just think we should make it a big event . Maybe band day or something that brings people out .

I think the biggest issue, when it comes to other sports events, is timing. You don't know *exactly* how long a softball or baseball game will take, so having those take place before the spring game is a little dicey. If you get lucky, the game will end on the diamond, and everyone will have the perfect amount of time to filter over to Burgess-Snow for the spring game.
But what will probably happen instead is that the game will end, and there'll be an uncomfortable 45 minute wait for football to start, or worse, it'll be time for the football game, and the baseball team is locked in the middle of a 12th-inning duel with a conference opponent.
Obviously, you can flip the order. Put the spring game (which is on a strict timer) before the other game. When it ends, you can encourage everyone to go over to the baseball or softball game, and help boost attendance there. That prevents the football team from using any kind of "under the lights" promo, though. (This is not a fatal flaw. Just something to consider.)
I wouldn't tie it into any kind of band event. The Southerners already perform in the stands at the spring game, so anyone who wants to see the band play the fight song and stand music knows they're there. Whenever possible, the Southerners already do take advantage of their rehearsal for the spring game to maybe read through a song or two from the following fall's marching show. (It helps boost band member attendance since no one is required to be there.) If you added some kind of high school band event on top of this, many of the Southerners (and most staff) would be busy trying to run that event, meaning the reading band would probably not happen, resulting in a net loss of Southerners members in the stands at the spring game. Bottom line: the Southerners are already doing their share. The fan numbers probably need to come from somewhere else.
My suggestion would be to hold it concurrently with some form of community event. Didn't they used to do a "Taste of Mountain Street" event in Jacksonville? Something like that maybe. Food, maybe some inflatables for the kids. The economy's bad. Aim for fun and cheap. People will come.

I still have not seen any videos or reports on the Spring football sessions. Is there a reason as to why there is a blackout? Are we going to be that good (or that bad) in the Fall? Asking for a friend.
