Six years ago today the tornado hit Jax State in a very devastating manner. Below is a video that is worth watching about the recovery and future of JSU.

Marketing? They market the school every day. Maybe not the way we think is best, but they do it. And like I mentioned in other posts, for anyone with ideas or money to share, please call Donna Callan (athletics) or Tim Garner (academics). If it's another M word, my apologies.

I guess I was saying this was great example of great marketing. But I also implied you rarely see that. If I struck a nerve I apologize but if you work on marketing you should do more of this instead of whatever it is you normally do. Ps more cash doesn't equal a better job. I kinda doubt putting this video together was terribly expensive. Lack of funds is a feeble excuse to do little or nothing, used daily by bureaucrats.

I kinda doubt putting this video together was terribly expensive. Lack of funds is a feeble excuse to do little or nothing, used daily by bureaucrats. I was the university photographer for 17 years, working in Marketing & Publications, so yep, every time someone uses the "there's the M word", a nerve gets touched. Thing is, I get it! I wasn't just an employee, I was a student, all 3 of my kids & my wife attended & one kid has been a prof for about 25 years, so ai have a LOT invested in that school. I took a lot of pride in the work I did during those 17 years, & all the nights, weekends & holidays I put in were done because I cared. And every person (at least 7 years ago before I retired) that worked in M&P cared too, with a few exceptions of mostly younger employees. I don't make excuses about lack of funding, that's just baked into the cake, so we just dealt with it. Did we always do the best job, make the best decisions, be the most creative? Nope. I always considered myself an average photographer, though with God's help I managed to make a living at it for almost 40 years, but for whatever reason I was the photographer that JSU had. Everyone did the best we could with the resources, talent & time we had. Sure, an argument could be made that not enough of us were talented or creative or smart enough or we would've done more & done it better. No argument there. But there's also a lot we did to market JSU that folks here have no idea about, as well as things we wanted to do, but couldn't, often for reasons beyond our control. As to the argument that we should've utilized students & their talents more... every office had multiple students paid to help with graphics, advertising, layout, video, photography, writing, sponsors, proofing and on and on. Should JSU have hired better staff than us? They certainly could've found a better photographer, but they didn't, so we did the best we could. ]Wow, that feels better! Thanks for letting me vent Slim! And forgive any typos or grammatical mistakes, I didn't proof this. 😁

So I view them in a certain light. Not everyone fits that profile but I suppose it's my go to. I often vent about them and their inability to accomplish much or anything. I do realize however that it is often the circumstances they work in that ties their hands. However it is very frustrating for those who work outside that realm. Jax State is for what it's worth the school of all my family. We all attended and for me it's a family member although I don't often feel it reciprocated.
