At this point, my favorite moment is when we didn't lose starters to the transfer portal. Some of it is poaching, but some of it is realizing you're probably not going to play much due to folks being brought in. Several of our recent losses are undoubtedly due to this. But unless we've brought in some STUDS on offense and defense that we just don't know about yet, losing Wiggins, Worth, and Tarnue is a blow.

I especially hate that Ron won't end his career here. Back to the original topic of the thread as someone who has regularly attended games home and away since 2002: Not an original answer at all, but the 2015 playoff run. I was able to be there for every game, and it was wild. The stadium was rocking. The most exciting game for me was the UTC game. Charleston Southern was a great atmosphere being on a Friday after the HS season was over. I believe it was on ESPN as well. SHSU was not really an objectively good football game, but it was a riot. Loved it. Booked my hotel in Dallas sitting in my red chairback seat on the visitor side. The weather was excellent for all three.

Beating utc was always fun. Home and away. 62-10 beat down of Sammy was fun. There was a UTC game in 2004 at Finley Stadium, during Hurricane Ivan. We beat the Mocs silly in that game. I wasn't able to make that trip and listened to The Voice on 92J, and was in hysterics the whole time. So freaking funny. It wasn't just that we were beating them. It's that we were embarrassing them. In their own house. In front of nearly all 17 of their fans.

I always thought it was just a few of the crack house residents moseying over to see what all the wailing & gnashing of teeth from their local football team was about, every time the team in red & white came to town.

Vs. Mississippi College, we lost 3-0 in the DII natty in Florence.
It SNOWED the night before and the game was a white out ... but I've never been colder and more fun for 2 days in my life.
All of my best college friends (still friends to this day) where with me. In my memory bank forever.

All of my best college friends (still friends to this day) where with me. In my memory bank forever. I think that day in Florence was colder than Frisco! One thing that I do remember about that game, it came down to two plays. A Statue of Liberty play (or something like this - a trick play in the snow covered field) that got MC in field position for the field goal. Those were the two plays. Everything else about that day could be summed up in fumbles from the cold and snow! Technically the game was vacated. So I guess you could say we won. Didn't loose......whatever. Once MC was hit with the penalties, their head coach John Williams made only a few comments about the game and the subsequent termination (retirement) or whatever MC did to him in regards to the violations. I remember that article in the Jackson Newspaper. He really had a weird reply. Even the reporter seemed to say in the article, his comments were strange. And they were!!! I think I remember that he recited a poem in reply to a question from the writer? It just didn't make sense. There was some hatred there from John Williams in regards to JSU. I think Jim Fuller did not want to play in Clinton anymore and expressed this more than once to the GSC. Bill Burgess probably didn't want to either. It was a dump! I've seen JSU play at MC in the 80's. Their stadium was terrible. So were the facilities. Just awful!! I believe that they have improved them now. Williams also had a hatred for troy state. At the time troy state was using leadership scholarships. I think he wanted to blunt that with what he was doing at MC. He just hated!

From what I understand -- and take this with a grain of salt; it's like 3rd- or 4th-hand information -- when the NCAA vacated Mississippi College's championship, they contacted Burgess about getting the national championship trophy, and Burgess basically told them, "No, keep it. We didn't win it. We don't want it."
His attitude was that, even though the other team cheated, JSU still needed to win the game to call themselves champions. Since the Gamecocks failed to do that, the championship was officially vacated.
That's why a lot of the commemoratives from JSU's 1992 championship say, "WE WON IT ON THE FIELD."

I was there in 1989 too. We blocked an MC attempted field goal and picked up the ball and ran as fast as one can run on ice for an apparent game winning TD. One of our guys started celebrating early and didn’t block the fastest man on the field (who later played with the Saints). That guy tackled our guy around the 35 and we punted or kicked from there. Just no offense from either team.

The snow game was officially vacated and the NCAA doesn’t recognize anyone as national champions from that year. I guess MC just sent the trophy back. I agree with Burgess that claiming a championship would be lame.
My favorite moment was the semifinal win to get to Frisco. A 62-10 beatdown of Sam Houston.

Revenge for the loss they had previously given us, & for the snarky, condescending comments Keeler had made about us. I was in our end zone shooting when we recovered the short kickoff & subsequent score. Lots of noise & energy that day, & a very satisfying win.
