My wife and I have been offered positions working in Vietnam... Bien Hoa to be exact (just northeast of Ho Chi Minh City aka Saigon). We are probably going to sign the contracts and accept them tomorrow.

Is it just me or does it sound like Charlie was ripping Blondie's "Call Me!" in that song?

Your going to have Asia covered. Just dont go to far north. We don't plan to... no desire to live in the land of Xinnie the Pooh... we are a little worried about an invasion here. Going to Vietnam will increase our income, lower our expenses, and give us some new scenery...without bombers invading our airspace. Plus, we want to visit Cambodia and love to vacation in Thailand. Both are very close to 'Nam.

But heck for you it's probably like moving to the suburbs after being in Taipei.

We got our email from the school confirming our hire, and we were added to the WhatsApp group.
...now we have to sell a ton of crap including a car and scooters, electronics that don't run on 220v, and miscellany that isn't worth shipping. That said, they are giving us $1700 for shipping, so we will ship everything we can. Even if it is towels, it is less to purchase once we land. We have a lot of hoops to jump through to make the move... more than usual because... Vietnam. From everything I read and watch, living there is no different than living anywhere else, but it is a communist country, so the immigration red tape is a bit to wade through.

Curious, what you make of the current Chinese tantrum. It seems to me like all China is willing to do taking "I'm not touching you“ to the extreme and just exist to be shitty neighbors. King_Gamecock

Curious, what you make of the current Chinese tantrum. It seems to me like all China is willing to do taking "I'm not touching you“ to the extreme and just exist to be shitty neighbors. King_GamecockXinnie the Pooh is trying to be elected president for life. Everything China is doing is a face-saving effort. They have no teeth. Invading Taiwan would cost mainland China billions if not Trillions and their economy is already in trouble due to the real estate crisis there. Dozens of Taiwanese companies employ millions in mainland...Acer, Asus, Adata, the list is literally endless. Seriously... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_companies_of_Taiwan. All of those companies have factories in China. If Taiwan is invaded, many will move their business to other countries like Vietnam or even Mexico. That would take millions of jobs and billions of dollars out of the Chinese economy. On top of that, the one child policy China had for years means that many families only have one male heir. Invading Taiwan will cost thousands if not tens of thousands of lives. All of those families will be missing a male child to carry out the Buddhist duties for their aging parents... and that would lead to China's #1 fear - instability. It is a serious situation, but I don't see an invasion happening... not for another 10-20 years. It is just posturing to save face and try to get Xinnie the Pooh elected again. Nothing more. Also consider that TSMC, the Taiwan company that makes the chips for the iphone, also makes all of the chips for our military. Do you think the USA will let war happen and disrupt that supply chain? The media is just looking for something to put on the front page other than the January 6 investigation that is wearing thin.

I agree with all that except the Jan 6 thing only had legs with those who wanted to propagate it. It actually I believe benefits those accused. As for the good ole USA standing for this or that. I don’t think this administration will stand against anything. It appears their foreign policy is reactive and only about saving face also. My solace is in the idea that China seems wise enough to protect the bottom line. More calculating than emotional. A massive war would injure the worlds economy and devastate China as well.

My comments about January 6 have nothing to do with right or wrong or fault…it has to do with the media. The media is about sensationalism, not covering the news in a factual way. The Jan 6 stuff is losing steam with viewers so they need fresh fodder and Taiwan provides it. Take the reaction to the “playing with fire” comment… that is literally the 6th time China has said that since 2014, yet it was treated as some new threat. It wasn’t. As for the governmental response to this, keep in mind this is an issue that directly affects the military industrial complex. They, not republicans or democrats pull the strings, just as Eisenhower predicted they would.

I only meant viewers never really believed or cared about the 6th except those who needed to for their own mindset. Most seen it live and saw it was nothing like what was claimed. Chinese rhetoric always reminded me of n.Korea. A war with China would only leave losers. Even the MIC would have little need for the wealth gathered from destroying the worlds economy. Definately proxy wars are the way to go. Let’s just supply the Ukraines Taiwans Iraq’s and Afganistans of the world.
