Also, still no confirmation on the status of Tennessee transfer TE Jackson Lowe. We got him off the Portal in September, then he reportedly re-entered the Portal in January. He never saw the field last fall, and wasn't listed on the spring '21 roster.
247Sports, which does a decent job at least of tracking major college Portalees, still has him listed as a JSU Gamecock. (Admittedly, their record for tracking FCS players is sketchy at best.)
Lowe used to have an active account on several social media sites, including Instagram and the bird. Those accounts have gone as silent as the news about him. I said in the OP that he'd fallen off the planet. I mean it. The guy's ghosted the world.
Lowe is a decent blocker, but is more of a receiving threat than most TEs, and would be more of a direct replacement for Barry. He'd definitely be a good pickup, and he's a four-star talent with four years of eligibility remaining, so you'd think there'd be some kind of news on him.
I'll keep checking on him, and if anyone gets any news, absolutely, please share it. In the meantime, here are my thoughts on the matter:
We got us a blocking TE in Tennessee transfer Sean Brown. If fall rolls around and we've also got another former Vol TE catching passes for us, then awesome. If not, then it gives us more reason to pound it. I'm good either way.

Looks to still be active on FB, but nothing posted about JSU.

With what appears to be an offensive lineman joining JSU through the transfer portal today, we are probably on the plus side of talent and need compared to what we have lost.
Go Gamecocks!!!!

Updated the status of DB Darius Joiner. He had a cryptic post about this in June but has continued to post his offers, and still lists JSU and grad transfer availability in his bio, but he's now listed on the roster for Western Illinois, so we'll go with that.
That covers all of our confirmed Portal losses. The status of TE Jackson Lowe remains unknown.
And there's still time to pick up some more off the Portal. A few thousand players are still lingering in limbo out there.

I'm not happy with the state of our football team but at least our athletics department isn't a full scale dumpster fire.

Added a D-II transfer. Jacob Dendy (5-11, 190) was a 2018 All-State RB at Albertville. He tore his MCL during his senior year, and wound up rehabilitating the injury as a redshirt at D-II Harding University in 2019. The Bison canceled all games during the 2020 season, so Dendy should have four years remaining. He's expected to play Safety for the Gamecocks.

Added K Brenton King, a transfer from Georgia Tech by way of Liberty.
As a freshman at Georgia Tech in 2017, King was 5-for-6 on field goal attempts and 15-for-16 on extra points while averaging 59.3 yards on kickoffs.
In 2018 he redshirted after seeing action in the first four games of the season.
In 2019, he was 4-for-11 on field goals and 27-for-28 on extra points while averaging 52.9 yards on kickoffs.
He transferred to Liberty in July 2020, but did not play in fall 2020.
He has two full years of eligibility remaining.

Hot damn! Let's hope Grass cuts him loose and tells him to kick it thru the end zone and not pooch it up to the 30.

Holy crap... this one went under the radar. Former Duke WR/KR Damond Philyaw-Johnson has signed with the Gamecocks as a grad transfer. He has verified, blazing speed (10.6 100m) and while he was never a huge threat offensively for the Blue Devils (15 receptions, 184 yards) he was one of the nation's top kick return specialists. In his time at Duke, he returned 37 kickoffs for 898 yards (24.27 avg) and 2 TDs. He has two years of eligibility remaining. Here's his bio: Can't embed this video, but you can watch it at the link below: goduke.com/showcase/embed.aspx?Archive=3511&autoplay=false

He makes fast look easy. He's got a stride like a race horse. Don't even look like he's trying.
