I'm curious how people think the band is getting screwed here. Same. When I read some of those Facebook comments, my jaw hit the floor. Some people are dumber than a box of rocks.

People are saying the band is getting screwed? After a new building, their own custom practice field, and the ROC? Do these people have any clue how loud our great band will be in this arena? I can't wait. 2023 will finally be the start of a loud and proud Burgess-Snow.

I can't wait. 2023 will finally be the start of a loud and proud Burgess-Snow. I think most of them are low-info types who are used to responding this way any time a campus building project is announced. Back in the 70s, 80s, 90s, and even 2000s, they honestly may have had a point. But now it's just ignorant. Most of my (many, many) Southerners alumni friends are very happy with everything right now. The Mason rebuild (thanks, tornado!) and practice field alone were amazing. Add the ROC on top of that, and it's actually far more than what we were pushing for in the late 90s. Anyone who's paying attention has got to be over the moon right now. Honestly, I'd never heard of one of the Facebook idiots I saw moaning about the band being "neglected." I'm not positive he's even with the band at all... as for the others, I correct them and move on. Life's too short.

I agree with Whup. As a Southerners alumnus myself, I am very pleased with how things are going. I think the JSU brass knows how big a recruiting tool the band is and are taking care of them.

Not a band person, but an actual football field to practice on has to be great for recruiting. Much better than a parking lot or dirt field.
Is a practice field common at big schools?

Not common across major colleges by any means, but it is becoming common at the schools with well-known marching bands.

I was a music minor (vocalist) and ran podiums for the southerners. Literally everything we gripped about then (c/o 2012) has since been addressed and more. I am a huge fan of this move. It's cost effective, preserves the view behind the scoreboard, incloses sound (home field advantage anyone?), adds more on campus housing. The powers that be are doing a terrific job, imo. Are there more things I'd like to see changed/added? frick yes. Shit don't happen overnight, but I feel we are on the right track. Good Job President Killingsworth and Mr Seitz.
Y'all, just close your eyes. It's 2023 and we're hosting KSU. Stadium is at capacity (which I fully expect with our new conference). KSU has the ball at their own 5, backs to the Southerners. It's 3rd and 15 after a false start.

The stadium is supposed to be completed in 2023, I wonder what attending a game will be like until then. Will the north side be closed?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk The facilities at JSU were a complete joke compared to the recruiting power and the recognition the band brought. The fact that the band had to practice in a parking lot where we could have been mowed down by a rogue 18-wheeler in 100° weather was ridiculous. The performance room was also a joke when there is a literal auditorium in another building that we weren't allowed to use because it's the English building for some reason. All the improvements that are making have been great. I wish I was a student again sometimes. Maybe when I win the lottery. But we still need to make the football stadium better.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Big schools sometimes have dedicated facilities if the band isn't trash. But most of the times I think they share space with the football team. Since most big school football teams don't practice on the grass lot behind the UPD and most have really nice facilities. The new improvements to Mason with the addition of the PAC puts us into being competitive with most major music programs.

We need to build an indoor football facility next to it.

I don't like it.
I think football stadiums should be stand alone building. Just like a library, dorm.....
I also don't like removing seats.
If its going to be a multi functional academic facility, dorms, dinning hall.....
Might as well put a track around the football field!

Would you ever know there were dorms there if somebody didn't tell you? They keep everything pretty well hidden.
