Most everyone on the two boards look at the CUSA make up from a football perspective only. What about basketball, baseball and softball, etc.
One of the reasons that was mentioned for moving to the ASUN was the reduction in travel costs. So how can joining CUSA keep the travel costs under control when you are playing UTEP and NMSU along with whoever else is in Texas?
I'm glad you asked. You do what supposedly is being considered by the SEC when Texas and Oklahoma join. You go to 16 schools and do the pod system. Some of the CUSA 16 would not have football. There are those on here that don't want non-football schools, but they seem to not like basketball any way.
So if I was the CUSA commissioner (I know you all would vote for me ), here is my proposal. The schools besides each other would be their travel partner.

POD 1
UTEP -- NMSU (41 miles)
SHSU ---UTA (216 miles)
______________________
POD 2
LA Tech----------McNeese State (197 miles)
Missouri State---UALR (215 miles)
______________________
POD 3
MTSU--------WKU (97 miles)
Liberty-------Mystery #1 EKU or NC A&T or a NC non-football school (EKU 412 miles*****NC A&T 107 miles****UNCG 110 miles)
________________________
POD 4
FIU-----------FGCU (135 miles)
JSU-----------Mystery #2 Chatt or another southeastern school (113 - 300 miles+/-)
_______________________
Basketball would be an 18 game conference schedule. Play your Pod home and away. Play the other 3 pods once. That way JSU and others would only go to UTEP & NMSU ever other year.
For instance:
Year 1/3/5 etc:
Home: FIU, FGCU, Mystery 2, NMSU, UTEP, La Tech, McNeese State, MTSU, WKU,
Away: FIU, FGSU, Mystery 2, SHSU, UTA, Missouri St, UALR, Liberty, Mistery 1
Year 2/4/6 etc. would be the opposite
For those of you that say, "McNeese just announced they aren't going to the WAC". They didn't say they aren't going to CUSA. Even Sam Herder thinks McNeese would go to CUSA if invited.

So what about football? Glad you asked!
12 football playing schools. 6 east and 6 west. Only one of the two mystery schools has football.
WEST
1. NMSU
2. UTEP
3. SHSU
4. Missouri State
5. La Tech
6. McNeese State
---------------------
EAST
1. MTSU
2. WKU
3. Liberty
4. FIU
5. JSU
6. Mystery 1 or 2
You play the 5 on your side and half of the other every year. So that means you only go to UTEP once every four years and you only go to NMSU once every 4 years.
I'll break it down even more. Here is a four year rotation.
Year 1
Home: MTSU, Liberty, Mystery, NMSU,
Away: WKU, FIU, SHSU, La Tech
Year 2
Home: WKU, FIU, Missouri State, McNeese St
Away: MTSU, Liberty, Mystery, UTEP
Year 3
Home: MTSU, Liberty, Mystery, SHSU
Away: WKU, FIU, NMSU, Mo St
Year 4
Home: WKU, FIU, UTEP, La Tech
Away: MTSU, Liberty, Mystery, McNeese St
That's my proposal. Keep in mind the 2 mystery schools would be, one with football and one without.
