Has JSU always had a walk-in day or is this something CRR started?

we didnt have walk on tryouts until school started. 85 of us came out. 5 AM every morning for 2 weeks straight. Ran us until there was only 7 of us left. That was back in the Crowe days though.

That’s one way to thin the herd It is virtually identical to what was done when I was walking on in the fall of 1991. I had knee problems in my senior year that kept me from being offered but they wanted me to walk on. I was a weight-room monster. At 6'1/270 with a 670# squat, 405# clean, and 575# dead lift, I would have been the strongest player on the team on day 1. My bench was a bit low at 370, but not bad. After a couple of days worth of 5AM bleacher runs my knee swelled up like a watermelon and I decided to march Southerners. Let me tell you, running bleachers until you vomit is not a fun way to start the day.

I think walk-on day was a huge success. There were a lot of kids there that would normally have gotten spots on college teams but due to the transfer portal and extra eligibility for college players they didn’t get picked up. There are several coming to JSU. I feel like JSU has a lot of momentum right now. New staff, conference, expansion, etc.. The coaching staff is very personable and down to earth. Really liked them as a group overall. We’ve been to a ton of colleges over the last year and we liked this visit and staff better than anywhere else. They knew every kid there, had personally evaluated their films and had hand picked everyone attending. Again, we were REALLY impressed with Coach Rich Rod and Coach Trickett.

That’s all great to hear. Walk on days seems to be a great way to be seen. Many kids for various reasons get over looked every year. Many many schools aren’t really even scouted.

I almost thought about maybe walking on in Fall 2003, but then I realized I was surprisingly slow for my size, not strong, and out of shape.
Good for these guys, some turn out to be really good players down the road.

I also suffered from the same affliction. Being athletically challenged has been a real disability for my dreams of an NBA life.

I guess out of shape 54 year olds aren’t eligible.

Remember walking on in the 80s, got there real early around 9pm to make I was one of the first ones. Had to wait hours but got a good seat, I ended up standing, I guess I made the team as I was a frequent member of the Brothers walk on team. Thankful for all of the great teammates and really enjoyed being on a Coed team.
