Jim Case needs to retire after this season- which is shaping up to be the worst at Jax St in a very long time. They have over scheduled with limited talent on the roster. Pitching nor hitting is anywhere near what it needs to be to compete - and the Florida teams in the A Sun will be even tougher.
He has had a great run and I thank him for that/ but the time to move this program forward is rapidly approaching. Need some new younger blood soon.

Toward the end of Coach Abbot’s tenure were were slipping… in his case we lacked the commitment needed to be truly competitive at D1. That isn’t the situation we have now. We have beautiful new facilities and an AD that is focused on getting us to championship levels in all sports. Mens and women’s basketball has been upgraded in recent years. Hiring Rich Rod was a swing for the fences move and we did it.
I suspect similar moves in Baseball.
I appreciate what Coach Case has done, but we are staring at what is effectively a third straight losing season. 2020 was cut short, but it wasn’t looking good. 2021 we were picked second or even first in conference by some and we had a losing season. 2019 was great including a sweep of Peay, but that season should be the standard and it seems like a lifetime ago.

These are the two most absurd posts I have ever seen on this board.

Burgess nor Jones were NOT forced out. Both retired fully vested in the Alabama system.

Bill… well, his departure wasn’t a simple stroll into the sunset. It depends on how you define ‘forced out.’ Both were being asked to compete at D1 with a D2 budget. Coach Burgess sued the university for wrongful termination over his firing, so I don’t know how you can claim that he wasn’t forced out.

The admin claimed that Burgess had lost control of the team and that’s why they fired him, but they had already told him that his contract wasn’t being renewed before backtracking and firing him a year before it ended… then trying to not pay him. To be honest I don’t know for sure how the lawsuit ended. I remember Rick was pretty salty about the whole episode.

I stand somewhat corrected. I had forgotten about Burgess getting sideways with admin in Bibb Graves. I believe JSU settled with Bill Burgess. It might have changed but the State retirement is figured on the average of the highest 3 years of your last 10 years of work. You are fully vested with 28 total years in the system & partially vested after 10 years of employment. So Bill Jones would have had no problem meeting the 28 years. Still believe ya'll are wrong about Case. I've attended games and in early season Case has a set number of pitches per player. Whatever the game situation or count on the batter he will change pitchers. It's all about the regular season & getting to the CWS. It's a long season & pitching is critical.

It feels like he leaves pitchers in too long, too often

Burgess sued JSU for being fired. How many championship level coaches "retire"at 53? He won back-to-back national titles at D2. That tells me that he is a competitor. Competitors don't generally retire at 53. Going back to 2009: 31-26 (12-13 conference) 32-25 (.552) Won OVC tournament 36-21 (.632) 28-30 (.483) 32-26 (.552) 36-27 (.571) won the OVC lost back to back out of the regional 30-27 (.526) 34-24 (.586) 30-26 (.536) 32-25 (.561) 39-23 (.629) Won the OVC and two games in the regional loser bracket 7-8 (.467) Covid shortened season with losses to Missouri, Central Michigan, Gardner Webb (home) and Kennesaw (home) as well as 2 on the road to EIU. 26-27 (.491) Picked 1st or 2nd in the conference 4-10 so far. Swept by UK at home, lost at Mama, won 1 of 3 at USM, lost to troy state at home, swept at home by USA (who does have tradition). 3 wins over Sienna (2-11) Doing the math, we are 371-325(.570) since 2009. We won the conference tournament in 2010, 2014, and 2019. We lost in the OVC tournament both years it was in Oxford. I know that baseball isn't the same as football. You won't win them all... but what is realistic? .700? .600? Coach Abbott was over .600 lifetime, and that included building the program and dealing with the transition. We had the collapse in 2001, but he had a 39 win season our first full year in D1. I was in Tuscaloosa in 2000 when we ended highly ranked Alabama's home winning streak one year after they were in the CWS. Perhaps it isn't fair to compare him to a hall-of-famer like Coach Abbott, but what should be the expectation for us in Baseball? We were a program that was one of the most dominant in D2. We are surrounded by great baseball and have great facilities. An occasional 40 win season would be nice - APSU has had a few of them since Case has been here. More than one trip to the regional per decade would be nice. Beating troy state, KSU, USA, etc., would be nice. Conference titles would be nice. 26-27 wasn't nice. 7-8 wasn't nice. 4-10 isn't nice. What should the expectation be? Serious question. It isn't like we have been playing in a top baseball league.Regional wins are rare and nobody makes it out of the regionals. Some might say that our OVC conference affiliation covered for us in much the same way it did for Captain Jack and CJG in football. I have always maintained that we didn't improve in football from the 4-6 season in 2000 to the 8-4 season in 2003, only the scenery changed. 2-4 in conference in 2002 was analogous to 7-1 in conference in 2003. In 2002 we ended the season with a 41-3 loss to Georgia Southern. In 2003 we ended the season with a 45-7 loss to WKU. Maybe Jim Case is the baseball equivalent of Jack Crowe...except Jack never had a losing season when we were in the OVC. So... what is the standard? What should we, as JSU fans and supporters, expect?

Sorry to inform some on this board but a Jim Case coached baseball team actually WON their first ASUN game yesterday with a 10-1 victory over Lipscomb. 1-0 in ASUN now.

Your reading this wrong, dont believe anyone wants Case gone they just want wins. In my dealings with JSU coaches of the past who were let go very few were not good people. I hated to see any lose their job but its the name of the coaching game. With that I do not believe Case is in danger of losing his job but I didnt think Grass was either.
