Jax State will host EMU on Sept. 23, 2023, at Burgess-Snow. The Gamecocks will then travel to Rynearson Stadium in Ypsilanti in 2024 on Saturday, Sept. 14. It will be the first meeting between the two schools. This is one of the series we got from Liberty when they had to cancel most of the games on their future schedules as a result of the move to CUSA. EMU finished the 2021 season 7-6 (4-4 MAC), closing things out with a 56-20 shellacking at the hands of our old friends Liberty in the Lending Hands Bowl. fbschedules.com/eastern-michigan-jacksonville-state-schedule-2023-24-football-series/The Gamecocks' non-conference schedule in 2023 is shaping up nicely: Sept. 2 - vs Kennesaw State (FCS) Sept. 23 - vs EMU (FBS) Nov. 4 - at South Carolina (FBS) This leaves one slot left to fill to round out our first-ever non-conference FBS schedule. The most obvious available dates are Sept 9 and Sept 16. A lot of coaches like to have an open date early to make adjustments after the first game. If that's the case with Rich Rod, we'll probably aim for that Sept. 16 slot (but don't rule out the 9th). We'll almost certainly go after another FBS school, as long as one is available. We should have enough home games to meet the criterion for moving up (I believe it's a minimum of 5 home FBS opponents, so EMU plus four CUSA home games) so we'll have some flexibility here. It'll probably be a road game, which should make it easier to land a solid opponent and/or potentially set up a home game for the 2024 season.

Just a quick note... as stevo mentioned in another thread, a potential home-and-home with Coastal Carolina might be available for that Sept. 9 opening, thanks to the Liberty reshuffling. That series would start with us traveling to Coastal in 2023, then we'd host the Chanticleers in 2024 as our home opener. Liberty really wants to keep Coastal on their schedule, but it looks like it won't be possible to do so until 2027 and beyond. That opens the door for us to take those Coastal games, if both sides are agreeable. If we do land Coastal, then the 2023 schedule will be complete, and we'll have two non-conference games locked in for 2024, both from Liberty: home against Coastal, and away at EMU.

Where are you seeing that JSU is playing KSU on 09/02/23? The previous scheduled game against UTC is no longer listed on fbschedules.com If Liberty doesn't want to give up the 2024 game against Coastal, I wouldn't mind taking their Ball State game.

I'm 1000% going to be in Ypsilanti for this one. I'm so excited.
If Seitz could line up any other Michigan, Indiana, or Ohio games, I'd be appreciative. 😂

Wished EMU could be a few weeks later to hit the leaves changing colors. Mid October would have been great.

Ball State, Bowling Green, Toledo, Purdue, Central, Western, MSU, UM, I'd gladly take any of them. Western and Michigan State would both be nice 1 hour trips for me.

The only thing that sucks is I doubt the Southerners will make the trip.

Bringing a team from Michigan to Alabama in September is perfect from the standpoint of home field advantage. It'll still be a billion degrees out on that field in late September.

I'm curious what trips the Southerners are going to be making from here on out. They've been at seemingly every FBS opponent for the past 20+ years, but I bet that changes. No one we have the funds or the desire to go to NMSU.
