Fully expecting a slow start offensively. We started slow in 2013 with Clark/Grass as OC in their first season, but by seasons end we broke a couple dozen school records. Hoping the offense can duplicate that kind of success/transition. BTW - who do y'all expect to win starting QB job? I'm a Zion fan, but the NC State transfer also looks very promising. Could duplicate the Eli Jenkins/Max Shortell rotation we had in 13/14. Id like to see McLaughlin push Zion for the job. It'll make Zion better. I think unless something crazy happens, it's Zions job to lose, and I would guess we see him starting in Montgomery. Hopefully, he's had some good development since the spring. What happens from there, who knows, but I think RR was up front with everyone when he arrived, and Zion probably would've transferred out if he had no shot.

I trust Coach Rod to go with the guy who will put us in the best position to win football games.

Well apparently we have 700 backups so if something happens to Webb I would sure hope one of them can provide some serviceable play. I would like to see Webb at the top of his game though.

A name to watch (may not be this year) at QB is Te-Sean Smoot. Checked out his film on Hudl and fits the mold of a Rich Rod QB. Strong arm, poised, athletic, and plays with a swagger. Has the physical traits to be a stud in this offense down the road. This is solely on his HS tape, but looks very promising against quality competition in Ohio.

I think it was yesterday's camp highlight video (Aug. 4)... it showed about 5-10 seconds of QBs running drills. One guy was throwing balls on a freaking rope. I mean, it just looked totally different than the others. I pulled up his number on the roster, and it was Smoot. Kid's got an arm. I can say this authoritatively after watching two passes in non-game situations on a camp highlight video. But seriously, his passes looked niiiiiice.

Truth be told the only QB I can name on the roster is Zion. McLaughlin was a 4-star freshman transfer from NC State, so unless you're a recruiting diehard or a Wolfpack fan, you probably wouldn't know him. The JUCO guy transferred in from California, so unless you're a fan of California JUCO ball, you probably wouldn't know him. As for the high school signees, the only "big name" was 3-star Te'Sean Smoot, who played high school ball in Ohio. So unless you're an even bigger recruiting diehard, or you follow Ohio preps closely, you wouldn't know him. So what I'm trying to say is, you're not alone in not knowing any of the QBs in the room. I'm hoping we'll have some legendary names in there before all's said and done.

McLaughlin will be our starter by game 3-4 if not at the beginning of the season.

McLaughlin will be our starter by game 3-4 if not at the beginning of the season. I see a 2-QB rotation with McLaughlin being used more aa a pocket passer taking advantage of this size, and Smoot as a “run and gun” style guy. This could drive opposing DCs crazy. Haven’t see or heard much from the JUCO guy at this point. I believe Webb is out and may be in line for another skill position.

Zion knows the days of slacking be acceptable, are gone. I really like Webb and hope he is ready for the challenge. He is a great athlete.

On the practice update video today, they interviewed Sterling Galban a xfer wide out. I think that was the first offensive player we've seen in the updates.
I hope that means we are clicking better on O. Or, it might just mean they ran out of players on D to talk to.

Just has me more worried about what we're working with on the O side of the ball.

Just has me more worried about what we're working with on the O side of the ball. The D is playing an aggressive "fly to the ball and disrupt things" style which is fairly easy to pick up. (Sure, there's nuance which will come later, but the basic style is pretty natural.) The offense is learning an entire new playbook, and apart from the entirely new coaching staff, most of the "field generals" are new to the program as well. If they weren't struggling (compared to the D) I'd be awfully worried about both units. The offensive playbook would be oversimplified and the defense would be thinking too much. Both of those are recipes for disaster. Based on what I've seen from camp videos (spring and fall) I like the general attitude of Rich Rod and staff. He's not saying, "We may have bitten off more than we can chew. We'll scale things back and try our best to compete." He's saying, "The offense was gross because the players haven't picked it up yet. We have to push harder." Give me that attitude any day. We'll be fine.
