So do we have a chance? They aren't very good but are still FBS. Their coach has been there since 2015 and is 39-47 so they must like mediocrity.

They are 1-1 this season with a 2 OT loss to Wyoming, and a 38-35 home win over Northern Illinois. They are able to score. Looks more like a pass-first offense. Only 4 penalties last game, so pretty disciplined. I think it's certainly possible to win, but it will be a tough game. I'm worried about our ability to defend in the secondary. This will be a great test. We are able to overcome mistakes against the FCS teams we've played, but not as much margin for error against Tulsa. I hope we keep it within striking distance going into the 4th.

If our QBs have a good day running the football we will have a good chance to win. If the QB run option is negated it will be a tough day.

I think it will be close. They lost to UC-Davis last year so they're not going to overlook us. I think we will have to have a passing game to win.

The season takes on a whole new tone if we somehow beat Tulsa. That's the marquee game on the schedule for everyone else besides those of us who would be happy losing every other game as long as we destroy Kennesaw State. Chandler Burks fumbled. Seriously though, a road win at Tulsa would be enormous. That's the type of team we will see every week starting next year, and I'm sure the coaching staff is making that known to the players.

Prior to the season starting I predicted 11-1 “if” the team chemistry can gel, and that Tulsa was the most likely loss. We are a talented but young squad. Early Vegas odds have this as an 8 point Tulsa win. This is a winnable game. I suspect the playbook will be opened up to keep their defense from loading the box. #12 gives us the best chance imo.
I visited the Tulsa message board. They have a stadium similar in size to ours and a less than enthusiastic/knowledgable fan base. The blog administrator didn’t even know we were from Alabama. Wish I could attend in person but have a birthday party for both sons.

G5 games are so hard to forecast. On one hand, the Gamecocks are capable of beating teams MUCH better than Tulsa.
On the other hand, we could get crushed 31-0, a la UAB last year.
I'm going to lean toward the positive, though. I think we pull this one out. Take a close lead into the 4th quarter, and then at some point in the final minutes, we add an insurance TD.
35-21 final. Gamecocks win.

Gamecocks win. It's weird. I don't think we've looked as dominating the past couple weeks as we did against SFA. We didn't look super great against Murray until later in the ball game. I just have a feeling that catches up with us here. I don't think Tulsa is as bad as some here may believe. 35-24 Tulsa That said, there are so many factors win or loss I'm very interested to see. Mainly, can our offense move the ball against a better defense and sustain a drive with a tempo like we saw against SFA? Can our offensive line control the LOS? Can our defense get pressure on Tulsa's QB? If the answer to all three of those questions is yes, I reserve the right to change my prediction.

They aren't bad. Obviously Tulsa can score. Defense probably isn't as good.

Absolutely... even a bad G5 team is better than most FCS programs.
Look at FIU when we beat them in Fall 2020. They were about as awful as a G5 team can get, but we were only able to eke out a 9-point win, despite outgaining them in nearly every statistical category.
If you took the current Tulsa team (at its worst) and put it in FCS, it would be a fringe Top 25 team. If they're playing well, the Golden Hurricane would be Top 10. I certainly don't think they're at NDSU's level, but they're good enough to expose our weaknesses.

I think Zion should be on the field too though. He's obviously a great runner. I just don't think he can distribute the ball well.
