Next up is uab and KSU, we should learn something from these games. Looking purely at RPI... Jax State (164) is currently 5th in the ASUN, behind FGCU (49), Liberty (53), Jacksonville U (123), and Peay (156). We're just two points above UNF (166). For now, we're well ahead of both upcoming opponents UAB (194) and Kennesaw (173). CUSA is losing a good deal of baseball strength to the AAC in UTSA (36), Charlotte (72), FAU (74), and Rice (90). The incoming schools will help cushion that loss, but won't overcome it completely, again, based on current rankings. Here's how CUSA24 would look today: 52 Dallas Baptist (CUSA) 53 Liberty (ASUN / CUSA23) 67 Sam Houston State (WAC / CUSA23) 164 Jax State (ASUN / CUSA23)173 Kennesaw State (ASUN / CUSA24) 183 La Tech (CUSA) 196 FIU (CUSA) 208 MTSU (CUSA) 233 WKU (CUSA) 297 New Mexico State (WAC / CUSA23) (UTEP does not field a baseball team. DBU takes their place. It's a solid trade.) If anyone's curious, the Sun Belt is as strong as usual. They make up for their basketball incompetence by having 3 baseball teams in the Top 50, 10 teams at #103 or better, and 11 teams in the Top 150. On that note, our April 18 and May 2 matchups against Pike County Correspondence School (33) should be a much better gauge of where we're at (and where we need to be) as a program, and winning those games would go a long way toward erasing the stigma of our two losses against Bama State (180).

…now 16-16 overall after a home loss to JU.
Our RPI is down to 163 now. Thankfully we have tuna,UAB and UCA (254) left. troy state, Lipscomb, Auburn, Samford, FGCU, and Liberty are all ranked ahead of us.
Tuna, UCA, and UAB should give us 20 wins. If we can sneak one from Lipscomb, Sammy, and Liberty, we can reach the Case 500 and talk about next year!

At the halfway point of the Conference baseball season, 15 games, the Gamecocks are 10-5 for a winning percentage of .667.
This puts JSU in a tie for 3rd place, and just one game out of 1st place in the 14 team ASUN.
Go Gamecocks!!!!

I've noticed through the years we don't appear to be concerned much with out of conference games. I don't understand the thinking behind college baseball but it appears overall win/loss is not the goal but rather conference play. Which is particularly hard for me to follow games we don't care if we lose.

We were awesome going undefeated in the OVC every year.

The thinking is, if we win every out of conference game, but finish below .500 in the conference, we won't make it to regionals. If we lose every out of conference game, but win the conference, we make it to regionals. With that in mind, if you have a crucial weekend series coming up with a conference opponent, but you play Bama State on Thursday, you won't want to blow through your best pitchers just to beat the Hornets. You might get the W, but at what cost?

Case's MO is about saving his pitcher's arms for the conference. It's not about the out of conference record. I've been to several preconference games where it didn't matter about situation, score or count on the batter. When a pitcher comes to a predetermined pitch count he is coming out. That doesn't play well on this board but it's worked pretty well over the years.

In 20+ seasons we have only won two games at regionals.

How many times have we actually been to regionals? Is winning the conference tournament an automatic qualifier? Doesn't look like it. 🥴
