How many times have we actually been to regionals? Is winning the conference tournament an automatic qualifier? Doesn't look like it. 🥴 Winning the conference tourney is an automatic qualifier. I dont recall us getting an at large even when winning the regular season, but do remember Tenn Tech getting at larges.

And now we just got taken to the shed by Troy. Embarrassing they had to end the game early because we were getting our arses handed to us.
JSU needs a culture change. Gotta start taking pride in winning OOC.

I've noticed through the years we don't appear to be concerned much with out of conference games. I don't understand the thinking behind college baseball but it appears overall win/loss is not the goal but rather conference play. Which is particularly hard for me to follow games we don't care if we lose. You're thinking about it all wrong. It's not we don't care about winning or loosing. Case's MO is about saving his pitcher's arms for the conference. It's not about the out of conference record. I've been to several preconference games where it didn't matter about situation, score or count on the batter. When a pitcher comes to a predetermined pitch count he is coming out. That doesn't play well on this board but it's worked pretty well over the years. This has always been the case in college baseball, it’s just that Jax St has mostly been on the other side of the equation. Probably the main reason that we regularly beat SEC and B1G schools back in our D-II days. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Gotta start taking pride in winning OOC. Guess we will see if that helped us save enough arms for FGCU 🤞🏼 Another under .500 season this year will be 4 straight, including the Covid shortened season, with 2 ovc championships in the past 13 seasons. The way our schedule sets up, it will be difficult to get above .500 unless we sweep the weaker teams remaining on our schedule. TUNA is bad, as is UCA. FGCU, Liberty, and Lipscomb on the road will be tough. Troy and Auburn will be tough. Even Samford will be a tough out for us. The problem with throwing away non conference games is that it breeds a culture of losses being acceptable. Competitors hate losing. There are no teams under .500 in the rpi top 60. Is it unrealistic to expect us to be in the top 60. Is it unrealistic to expect us to be on par with Wofford, Charlotte, troy state, and Elon?

Next up is uab and KSU, we should learn something from these games. Looking purely at RPI... Jax State (164) is currently 5th in the ASUN, behind FGCU (49), Liberty (53), Jacksonville U (123), and Peay (156). We're just two points above UNF (166). For now, we're well ahead of both upcoming opponents UAB (194) and Kennesaw (173). CUSA is losing a good deal of baseball strength to the AAC in UTSA (36), Charlotte (72), FAU (74), and Rice (90). The incoming schools will help cushion that loss, but won't overcome it completely, again, based on current rankings. Here's how CUSA24 would look today: 52 Dallas Baptist (CUSA) 53 Liberty (ASUN / CUSA23) 67 Sam Houston State (WAC / CUSA23) 164 Jax State (ASUN / CUSA23)173 Kennesaw State (ASUN / CUSA24) 183 La Tech (CUSA) 196 FIU (CUSA) 208 MTSU (CUSA) 233 WKU (CUSA) 297 New Mexico State (WAC / CUSA23) (UTEP does not field a baseball team. DBU takes their place. It's a solid trade.) If anyone's curious, the Sun Belt is as strong as usual. They make up for their basketball incompetence by having 3 baseball teams in the Top 50, 10 teams at #103 or better, and 11 teams in the Top 150. On that note, our April 18 and May 2 matchups against Pike County Correspondence School (33) should be a much better gauge of where we're at (and where we need to be) as a program, and winning those games would go a long way toward erasing the stigma of our two losses against Bama State (180). We just played Pike county what did that tell us?

I know this isn't a popular opinion among some of us (and for many it is)... I hope Jax State can join the SBC one day. We match the makeup, culture, and geography of that conference. Their baseball is P5-level (Louisiana just beat #1 LSU). Their football has gained a lot of national attention in recent years. Their basketball is purely average, but they've got historically good teams that care like Old Dominion, Louisiana, Georgia State, Marshall, and JMU. Plus I'd absolutely love to see what our attendance looked like hosting Marshall, Troy, Southern Miss, Georgia State, South Alabama, and JMU. The interest would be high every year.

The geographical matchups favor the Sun Belt Conference members, but we need to be successful in CUSA for that to happen. To be successful in CUSA, we need strong NIL collectives to be organized. We have an operating NIL collective for football, but I don't know if we have one for other sports, such as men's and women's basketball or baseball. MTSU men's basketball collective gave each player $30,000 last year, and they finished in 8th place in the league. We're nowhere close to that; without a collective, we will be mired in mediocrity, at best. We have a lot of work to do as an alumni base if we want to be successful. This is not something the university can do because NCAA rules prohibit it. The landscape of college sports is changing, and we need to be prepared to change with it or we will be left behind. We can't complain about it, it's just the way it is.

If Jax State became a perennial mid-major "power" in basketball, and really made a national splash in football for a couple of years, I believe we'd be a target by the SBC. That conference likes good football and rivalries. They don't care about huge markets. Replicate what Liberty is doing. I believe Liberty would be in the SBC right now if they didn't have the "baggage", mainly from the Falwell family.

If Jax State can establish itself as a mid-major/G5 power then we will become an SBC target. If CUSA, post FCS->FBS transitions, can establish itself as a power mid-major/G5 conference, it becomes a more attractive home for JSU fans. I'm very much in the "happy with CUSA" camp, but unlike some others, I don't have an all-out hatred for the SBC. It definitely offers some advantages when it comes to familiar opponents and football (and especially baseball) strength. CUSA has a decided edge in hoops, but neither of us is exactly the Big East. In the age of the Portal, the Belt could theoretically catch up to (and even pass) us in a season or two, if they ever became motivated to do so.

Unless big changes happen, I dont see any reason to want to move down to the SBC.

Not having enough arms to be competitive in non conference game is ridiculous. 2 losses to Alabama St, losses to Troy, UAB and Samford is simply not going to be acceptable.
Florida Gulf Coast has dropped 17 runs on Jim Casey’s weekend starters. So so much for “ saving pitchers.”.
Jim Case should not coach another game after this season ends. He should be done/ retired. Decision should not even be questioned.
Problem at Jax St is the current AD does not make this decision. BOT needs to step up and do what is right for the program.
