I have received knowledge of talks that have been occurring between JSU and Troy admin about potentially starting a short 1-and-1 series in football.
The first game possibly in Troy, in either 3, 4, or 5 years. Nothing is definite and no contracts have been signed. Troy is apparently still putting priority on adding one other home game vs. a P5 to their future schedules before committing to a JSU rivalry renewal. Troy already has home games scheduled against Mississippi State, NC State, and BYU. If news comes out about Troy landing another P5 home game, we may see a Troy vs. JSU rivalry on the horizon not too soon after.
This would easily be a sellout for JSU.

We shouldn’t be begging them for games.

Who said JSU was begging?
With Army quite possibly cancelling a 4 game series with Troy, what better time than now to have a conversation to see if something can get worked out.

Not sure it will be a big deal at all. Sure there is a group of old men who care about it, but anyone under 40 would hardly give it a thought. Unless there is some good marketing done to emphasize the significance of the game.

From what I was told, JSU approached Troy admin first about the possibility, and Troy was actually receptive of the idea... conditionally upon them securing another future P5 home game first. Troy wanted to have as many available dates for a P5 home game as possible, without filling those dates with another two-game G5 series. And apparently Army isn't cancelling their series with Troy, one reason being that it's a 4-game series and not a 2-game series like most of their OOC games... and Army/Troy won't start that series until 2030.

Even if you forget the past, a home and home with an in-state FBS school is like an instant rivalry. And they have a good team. Easy travel for football and band folks (who keep the old ways more than your average JSU fan). Plus, I am 38, so I'm just a little too young to remember the rivalry when it was competitive, but even I know we Whup Troy. The only downside would be to schedule it before we are actually competitive and get dragged, but I think we are close even now and by the time both schools schedules would permit, that wouldn't be an excuse. I think it would be good for both.

Army has to get rid of a lot of games since they are joining the AAC. Army is likely to have language in their contracts to protect them if they joined a conference (like BYU did). Such as Army has to provide another acceptable G5 team to take over part or all of the contract. Another way to incentivize Army to hand over Troy is to also take over their South Alabama contract for 2030 and 2031.
For those of you asking for a P5 home game, Army may want to get rid of their home & home with Syracuse in 2025 & 2026. Though that would give JSU 3 away non-conference games at this point.

Whup Troy! We could beat them on the football field as well as dominate them at halftime. I remember the campus excitement in the old days when TROY STATE was on the schedule.

We could beat Army and Navy. Air Force would be more of a challenge.

I hope it works out and we get the home-and-home with Troy State.
They're obviously a known football brand in the state, more successful than UAB.
It would be pretty sweet to have home games against TSU, Southern Miss, and Coastal Carolina. Those aren't slouch G5 brands.
