If Jax State wants to go R2, even as a long term goal, they'll need someone acting on their behalf in Montgomery.
Right now, whenever something comes up in the State House which could benefit the University, the local representative tends to block it.
We have Mike Rogers in our corner in the U.S. Congress. Unfortunately, that means precisely squat in most matters pertaining to Jax State. D.C. isn't the one doling out funds for things like research programs and degrees. We have to rely on Alabama for that, which puts us at a disadvantage, seeing as we don't have a Huntsville, Mobile, or Birmingham address, and we're not Alabama or Auburn. And we don't have Jack Hawkins.
I tell ya... as much as I despise that man -- and I do -- he loves rocking the boat to benefit his little correspondence school.

I had the privilege of sitting with State Senator Keith Kelley at the New Orleans Bowl. He is definitely in the JSU corner. Just now receiving many presetigious committee assignments, I believe Senator Kelley will be an asset in Montgomery. For one, Keith is a local guy. He is also a man of integerity that wants to help. He is not in Montgomery for personal gain. A rookie in Montgomery, Senator Kelley already has 2 strikes against them, but Keith has held strong and it will show in the future. Just an apointment to the Finance & Taxation Genral Fund committee is a coveted postion, along with being a member of The Rules Committee.
Don't get all worked up. Political results turn slowly and Senator Kelley's appointment to the Rules Committee was just in December. The next Legistative Session starts on February 6.

Sen Kelley maybe a rookie in his seat but definitely not a rookie in Montgomery. Spent a great deal of his personal time in Montgomery adovacating for issues and learning the methods for success.

This is a clear example of when my location on the opposite end of the state puts me at a disadvantage. I'd never even heard of Kelley. My comments were aimed at his predecessors.

His predecessor was not a friend of JSU he only desired to raise taxes. kelley
