Get us a coach who can recruit and we will be fine. Plenty of players within 100-125 miles of campus that UAT and UGA dont want. Recruit and then DEVELOP players.

Well; I recommended Major Applewhite and that got dismissed so let’s go for Dan Mullins from Florida he could get us to the next level Actually Applewhite is one of only about three realistic suggestions mentioned on the two boards.

I'm just gonna assume the GT doesn't know what their talking about, per usual. With the way the university has been going as of late, I'm optimistic we can afford better than a subpar FCS assistant. Why? We were one of the better-paying gigs in the FCS for a HC, and the budget will no doubt be increased for a FBS coach. We may not be in the $1m range, but it will be over $500k certainly. Grass' base salary was 300k in 2017. Chadwell at Coastal is only $319k. App State pays $750k. The average FCS salary is like $240k, so Grass was definitely above the average. Chadwell was paid less than $200k at FCS. I know we aren't made of money, but you can bet we will bump to $500k+ if we have to. This is the state of Alabama after all. If Chadwell is only at 319K, he is woefully underpaid. Let’s double it and put an end to this. He would be a great hire.

Well; I recommended Major Applewhite and that got dismissed so let’s go for Dan Mullins from Florida he could get us to the next level A lot of people have followed Applewhite since his high school football days. As you probably know, he was named after Major Ogilvie, Alabama running back, and grew up a Bama fan. A lot of people expected him to go to Alabama but he ended up signing with Texas. I think there is some stigma attached to his name as a coach due to his spotty record as an OC early in his career. In truth, it is probably unfairly obtained as he progressed in the ranks too fast. I don't know that he was ready to be OC at Alabama at 27 years old and then he was shown the door by Saban. Being fired from the HC job at Houston after 2 seasons and a 15-10 record didn't help his reputation. Is he a good coach or a great coach? I honestly don't know. We could probably do worse. He has worked under some great coaches, notably Saban, Mac Brown, and Tom Herman. I also don't know that we could afford to keep him if he was successful. With his FBS pedigree, a modicum of success at JSU would get him back into a seven figure coordinator position. Its a bit of a gamble... either he wouldn't work out, or if he did, it would likely be very short-term.

I'd be outraged if we settled for the triple option while transitioning to the FBS. It has its place among schools that have a hard time attracting top athletes (Military academies, schools with higher admission standards). But it's awful football. Well KSU is 3-0 against us with it. GSU has notched some National titles with it. What have we done without it? I’m not saying he is the one and only choice I’d have, but to be outraged by that choice? Honestly, what has our version of RPO done for us beside get us a fist-full of oversized OVC rings? Yeah... I wouldn't be outraged. It would be an interesting experiment. CPJ won big with that offense at the service academy level, and that is essentially analogous to G5. He would consistently win more than he lost. He beat Pitt, Boston College, and Notre Dame while at Navy. There is no reason to think he couldn't beat MTSU, WKU, and SHSU at JSU. It isn't the sexiest new offense on the planet, but when executed properly it is a thing of beauty to watch.

Part of his problem at Alabama was that it was Saban’s first season and he was trying to clean up after Shula and establishing his process. Probably wasn’t ready for that situation.
He went 15-10 in two years at Houston. Not great, but not horrible. Could his quick exit have been more than just on the field results?
He is now the OC at South Alabama so that tells me he isn’t exactly a hot property in high demand. His longest tenure was as “Co-OC” at his alma mater during Mack Brown’s decline.
He’d probably take the job but I think we could do better.
The way UAB fans are bitching right now Bill Clark may be available.

Major needs to move to a more successful program then move forward. The gamble is too great compared to likely options. Doesnt mean he will not make a good HC but a lot of risk.
Tom Hermon available? Sark is making him look better, and Texas has turned itself into a laughing stock of a program. Their athletic program needs a complete cleaning out. New administration, coaches and influential boosters.

Chadwell needs to be moving on or he could bill like Bill and stuck at UAB forever. Bill should have moved at any chance he had but didnt pull the trigger. Chadwells Coastal team has fallen back to earth and he needs to be moving.

That info wasn't on the coaches' salary website I found... had no idea. Thanks! Scratch Chadwell. That is probably out of our price range... at least if you factor in the buyout (which I am sure is substantial).

Part of me is expecting an announcement the week after Thanksgiving. Once Black Monday happens, it will be more of an open season on all candidates.

I think we already have someone essentially hired; it's just a case of making the announcement. JSU waited til our season was over, but then didn't want to make the announcement the week of Thanksgiving. I definitely don't expect us to go too far into December without making the announcement. The December early signing period runs from Dec. 15-17.
