I don't care much for this list. But I'd say I prefer Pruitt defensively minded one shot at UT did not do well but it is UT. Was fired for recruiting violations that may not even be illegal anymore. I need more information about his offensive strategy and or successes or failures. But after hearing Kirby smart in the locker room, I want him.

Gadsden Times list: Max Thurmond - JSU Jason Simpson - UT Martin head coach Butch Davis - FIU Ex - head coach Jeremy Pruitt - Ex Tennessee - NY Giants Charlie Strong - J'ville Jaguars LB coach Newland Isaac - Coastal Carolina Willie Korn - Coastal Carolina Barry Lunney - UTSA OC Zack Kittley - Western Kentucky OC Zac Alley - ULM DC Mark Hudspeth - Austin Peay Ex head coach Patrick Toney - ULL DC Rob Gray - Faulkner head coach Can we assume from this list that Jody Wright has been removed from consideration? Of this list, I see some potential winners. I don’t know why anyone thinks we are going to attract a successful FBS coach. If they are already successful in FBS, why would they come to a program just making the move. Jason Simpson can coach. Has done more with less for many years now. With our resources, he would automatically be better. Butch Davis is intriguing, but he is way past his prime. Not sure why he would even want to coach anymore. Jeremy Pruitt is a good coach but may have been over his head at UT. Charlie Strong is also a good coach. I’m intrigued by Barry Lunney. He has UTSA’s offense rolling right now. The Coastal Carolina and ULL coaches have at least had seen some success at their G5 programs that we would like to model. I’ve been on the Hudspeth train for awhile. He’s a good coach, but questionable character. If he can have on the field success at UNA, ULL, and Peay I would think that he can win here. Who is the strongest recruiter out of this bunch? That’s what we are going to need. These are additional names to the previous list.

If you love JSU, you know we want better than Pruitt.

Butch turned 70 today so I’ll pass on him. But he might take it for the chance to beat up on FIU every year.

Wait a minute, is this something that came out of the athletic department/leaked or otherwise?
Or, is this just some media members thoughts on who he thinks we might interview?
Cause I think its #2, unless someone read something different in the article.

I think it's definitely #2 I haven't noticed any leaks about anything. Jax St. Is tight lipped about everything.

I may be alone on the band wagon, but I would not be against Pruitt at all. His name alone along with the stops he has made would be a bump in recruiting. Further as in any leadership position his ability to pick good people and then let them do their jobs would say a lot.
He was good enough for bammer and had some success. Would he be long term? Probably not, but I'd take him over every name on that list.
Simpson is a good coach, but it still smells of the awful OVC.
Let's grow up as a school and think big!

Of that list..Jason Simpson is the top choice. Experience at JSU. Success at UT-Martin. Affordable. Would be a step up from current job and likely to stay at JSU. I like Simpson, but while JSU experience, (moderate) success at UTM (admittedly, an impossible job), affordability, and likelihood of staying at JSU are all big positives, he's got one huge negative which takes away his standing as the "top choice": ZERO experience as a coach at the FBS level. 1995 Delta State (Grad Asst.) 1996 Collins HS (MS) (assistant) 1997–1999 Jacksonville State (QB) 2000–2002 Texas State (QB/WR) - this was when Texas State (aka SW Texas) was an FCS member of the Southland Conference2003–2005 Chattanooga (OC) 2006–present UTM (HC) According to the job posting for Head Football Coach @ JSU, experience at Div 1 FBS is a requirement.

If you cant get an "official" info and you have customers wanting information, make some up. None of the names are totally out of line but I doubt many get real consideration. Heck, football scoop doesnt even have any scoops.

I'm just gonna assume the GT doesn't know what their talking about, per usual. With the way the university has been going as of late, I'm optimistic we can afford better than a subpar FCS assistant.

Why? We were one of the better-paying gigs in the FCS for a HC, and the budget will no doubt be increased for a FBS coach. We may not be in the $1m range, but it will be over $500k certainly. Grass' base salary was 300k in 2017. Chadwell at Coastal is only $319k. App State pays $750k. The average FCS salary is like $240k, so Grass was definitely above the average. Chadwell was paid less than $200k at FCS. I know we aren't made of money, but you can bet we will bump to $500k+ if we have to. This is the state of Alabama after all.
