Last tune up before the conference starts play is tonight. Starting to feel like this season may be very looooong.

We didn't play well. Don't know if you heard Ray after the game, but it wasn't pleasant. One thing we know for sure, our team won't quit working.

Friday will be more of a gauge. We beat them twice last year By 11 there and 17 at home.

Not that we've had a good fall overall -- we obviously haven't -- but with the number of new players on the team, I wonder if they didn't just fail to take GSW seriously. I mean, GSW is "just a D-II opponent" and it's the holidays. Without some solid senior leadership, I could very easily see inexperience leading to complacency. Regardless, I'm putting this game into the "at least we got the W" box, but if this was what at least part of what caused the poor showing, I hope it wakes the team up. It's always good when you can get a lesson without taking an embarrassing L.

They only beat Auburn-Montgomery by 8 and lost to Northern Colorado. How many wake up call do they need.

The most experienced is a transfer and the second most is the 3rd or 4th guard from last years team. They do need to win the games that they should, and get hot in Feb and Mar.

Just looking back the last few games the starting 5 are: 3 seniors 1 junior 1 freshmen top 2 subs are a junior and sophomore plus Ngumezi from earlier in the year is a junior. How is that a young team?

How is that a young team? Perhaps I should have said inexperienced instead of young, but I am looking it as playing experience not age. One of the five has quality game time historically and that is the transfer Sr, who is new to the program. The other two seniors have started 4 games in the last two years combined. One only averaged around 10 minutes per game. The junior only averaged about 11 minutes also. When you put that into a team there is no quality experience in the system.

Coach Harper has mostly gotten transfers and jucos. Not many freshman that stay. At that pace you are never going to get much more experience in the system than you do now.

True, but compared to the last two years our experience level was much greater. Especially last year, but that is probably related to the covid waiver.

If I grab a bunch of random seniors from around college football and put them on the same team, it doesn't mean I've got an experienced team. And it certainly doesn't mean I've filled my team with leaders.
Not all seniors are leaders.
To be clear... I am NOT knocking any current member of the Gamecock basketball team (or senior class). I'm just saying, the three words "senior," "experienced," and "leader" are not synonymous.
Sometimes, you'll get your experience and leaders by adding transfers. Sometimes, you have to coach a little harder. This fall, Ray has had to earn his money.

Well, tonight was disappointing. Really lost it at the free throw line. We were 5-12. They were 12-19.
