I'd imagine the legacy CUSA schools aren't too happy, but it's hard to complain on our end. Idk what the ASUN deal was, but it wasn't $750K a year. This is miles better than ESPN+ streams. And we'll have a month of guaranteed night games. I only worry about the midweek crowds and recruiting visits. But maybe that's remedied with the weekend games in September and November.

Highlights from the Article:- 5-Year Deal with CBS Sports Network and ESPN, including a one-year option held by the networks.
- Most October league games to be played on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, with a handful of games on Thursday and Friday nights.
- Unconfirmed, but sources say each CUSA school would make $750,000 yearly off the deal, slotting CUSA just behind the Sun Belt and MAC.
The Bad:
- Midweek games are terrible for alumni from out of town. Wednesday nights are terrible for many churchgoers in the Bible belt. Friday nights are terrible for states where high school football is important.
- TV Revenue is better than the OVC and ASUN, but not great. Probably to be expected, though, with a deal involving a non-marquee 10-member league with three FCS transitionals.
The Good:- Midweek games may be terrible for out of town fans wanting to attend games, but TV ratings are often better for lower tier schools, especially since Saturdays can be so crowded. CUSA games may be the "only game in town" for those looking for football to watch during the week.
- Midweek games can be better for students, if the schools market the games to those students accordingly. Cough. I said the M word.
- It's not great, but it's not terrible. If Jax State, Sam, and Kennesaw hold up our end of the deal and don't suck out of the gate, by the time we're all bowl eligible, it'll be time to negotiate a new deal.
- For Southerners, it's a mixed bag. Harder to travel to some away games, but Saturdays are freed up for more exhibitions. Good for recruiting, and not just for the band...
- At least for the non-Friday games, coaches are able to travel to regional high schools more easily for recruiting.
For anyone joining us late... here's a clarification of the TV plan, based on updated info, including an interview with La Tech's AD... The Tuesday/Wednesday dates will be every game in October, and will be televised on ESPN's linear networks (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU). The Thursday/Friday dates would be a specially selected "game of the week" and televised on CBSSN. These wouldn't be limited to October, but would not involve every team. CBSSN will also televise 1-2 other games each Saturday throughout the season. Any remaining games will be streamed on ESPN3 or ESPN+, and will be on Saturdays as usual.

I'll be there every Tuesday or Wednesday night. CBS video quality is way ahead of ESPN+ stuff normally so it will make for watchable TV.

If it means no more ESPN Minus that is a good thing. Weeknight games suck but being on the main stage will be nice.

I much prefer week night to Saturday at 1 pm. More people will be watching and those of us at the game won't be collapsing from heat stroke.

Good for us.
Bad for CUSA legacy teams. I read that ESPN only did a 5 year deal as a "prove your worth" kind of thing, and they have terms that allow them to jump ship if any schools leave again.

Unless something radical happens with the stadium renovation, Burgess-Snow's debut on the midweek schedule may have to wait til 2024, due to the lack of lights on the north side.
Regardless, moving forward, I wonder how Jax State will adjust the "special event" schedule, which has gone relatively unchanged for 20+ years.
Band Day is normally in September, so it wouldn't be affected. Same with the Southerners reunion and Veterans Day in November.
Preview Day/Family Day was in October this year, but can be (and has been) combined with Band Day in the past.
That leaves Homecoming, which quite honestly HAS to be on a Saturday. I guess having one Saturday home game per October wouldn't be a big deal. There should still be plenty of content for the networks' midweek schedule.
It'd be interesting to see Jax State add another event specifically to boost crowds for midweek games. Maybe some kind of variation on Preview Day, centered on schools in the immediate area (i.e., Calhoun, Etowah, Cleburne, Clay, Talladega, St Clair, and Cherokee counties). A "Salute to Schools" or something? I dunno.
The point is, it would be structured in such a way that the midweek kickoff would be a pro, not a con, for the non-JSU student crowd.
Oh... one more potential plus for midweek October games: it reduces the impact on Talladega on crowd and team lodging logistics. Granted, Talladega doesn't have the impact it used to have back in the 80s and 90s when the entire Hwy 21 corridor would be overrun with race fans. But it'll still be nice putting some separation between the race crowds and football crowds.

Its a slight upgrade but whatever we have to do increase revenue and appearances on national broadcasts.

Bryan Fischer @bryandfischer · 25m Biggest win for CUSA fans: ESPN+ or ESPN3 will carry all non-televised regular season football games and all Olympic sports. A far cry from the patchwork the league has operated with currently.
