We aren't a state flagship school. We don't have the same mission as a flagship. We aren't funded as flagship.

Just looking at the athletic budgets, we are poor. Absolutely. You also have to factor in cost of living into these budgets, which is much lower in Jacksonville than other places, but I think we've done pretty good for ourselves, all things considered.

Its amazing the Hens forum board was roughly a month ahead on this news. UMASS rumors havent died completely but Temples name seems to have recessed. Tarleton rumors are exploding, up to and including some not-so-subtle tweets from their president. So I guess they'll be No. 12. But the new rumor is that CUSA intends to keep going to 14. (Possibly a year or two after reaching 12, but depending who's available, a break might be the least believable rumor I've heard. I wouldn't be surprised to see 14 announcements by 2024.)

The Delaware group is talking like they can pick and choose their suitor and better than everybody else. Like the ACC or America has been knocking on their door I already can't stand these people... and that school.

The three-pod format would be just as you posted it. The Central pod in this scenario is outstanding. Every team would develop a rivalry with every other team, simply because of the distances involved. The longest distance between Central opponents would be 288 miles between WKU and KSU. I think if we went to East-West divisions, I think it would end up looking more like this: EASTDelaware Liberty UMass or EKU WKU MTSU FIU WESTKennesaw St Jax St La Tech SHSU UTEP NMSU This format would preserve rivalries by keeping MTSU/WKU and JSU/KSU in the same divisions. On that note, if UMass joins, there's a rivalry with Delaware. If EKU joins, they'd be another rival for WKU. Despite having to fly to every game anyway, FIU would balk at being in the West. Besides, it kind of makes sense having them play teams along the Atlantic coast. The Gamecocks would still have long distance trips to UTEP and NMSU, but would not have to make the long treks to FIU, UMass, UD, and Liberty. It balances out. We have a history with Sammy, and La Tech's not *terribly* far away, so there'd be some familiarity there. And the lucky JSU fans who get to travel to La Tech games would get to enjoy some of the authentic Cajun cooking in Ruston. (Consider me envious.) Tarleton and SFA are notably missing from this list. (So is MOST, but I don't really care about them.) If the conference ever had financial incentive to expand to 16, though, those are the teams I'd choose, along with whichever team from EKU/UMass didn't get the invite this go round. Add NDSU, see what that looks like. Type Fargo into Google maps and it looks like we'd have another team 14 hrs away in a whole new direction.

Love the addition of Delaware, I am hoping we can keep Liberty long term. I do not think we can keep Liberty long term as they will be looking to move to another conference soon due to high level football.

I don’t think Liberty is at risk of leaving. Where would they go that would be considered a step up? The AAC is more interested in big markets and Lynchburg doesn’t bring that. They tried to buy a spot in the Sun Belt a few years ago and were rejected. They really aren’t a fit in the MAC. CUSA took them because they were in desperation mode.
There is also the Falwell factor. The chancellor is Jerry Jr.’s brother. Fair or not, his family’s politics are going to keep them out of the discussion.
The school also has a reputation as a diploma mill. I don’t know how accurate that is but a lot of university presidents (the ones who decide these things) aren’t going to want that association.

Conferences realignment especially G5 has more to do with location than performance. Unless your like Notre Dame and have an enormous following that has demonstrated itself everyone else is governed by potential markets. Lynchburg is the #71 market and is no more likely to be invited elsewhere than we are. Unless a hole in the AAC etc... is located in such a spot that liberty will better fill it.

Am I the only person who's never heard of Tarelton?
So, I googled it last night... nice looking school, 15K enrolment and akin to Texas A&M... but their sports don't look great.
Not sure it makes CUSA stronger... but at this stage if your not growing your going so CUSA has to keep moving and collecting $5M every time they do.

Tarleton is brought up every year. I'm indifferent towards them. Don't know anything about them other than they're in Texas .

It seems if they were remotely successful in any of the major sports someone would have heard of them. As I understand they are located in an affluent region of Texas much like NDSU flush with oil money, at any rate I believe what is fueling their rise is wealthy alumni.
