Am I the only person who's never heard of Tarelton? So, I googled it last night... nice looking school, 15K enrolment and akin to Texas A&M... but their sports don't look great. Not sure it makes CUSA stronger... but at this stage if your not growing your going so CUSA has to keep moving and collecting $5M every time they do. I never heard of them until their name started coming up a couple of years ago for the ASUN. The main reason is that they were Division 2 up until 2021. My D2 knowledge is pretty limited to Gulf South and SIAC schools. They were in the Lone Star Conference. They are also not eligible for FCS playoffs until 2024. To go from D2 to just a few years ago to being brought up for FBS consideration is almost crazy, unless you have a lot of money, which it appears that they do.

My bad.

I don't see it as being that different than programs like USA, FAU, and FIU that went from no football at the DI level to FBS as quickly as possible.

I was going to mention UAB, who went from club team to two years in D-III before jumping to D-IAA. Three years later, they moved to full D-I.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk UAB was basically kicked out of D3 football when the NCAA passed a rule saying a D1 school can’t have D3 football. Most of those like that founded the non-scholarship Pioneer League but UAB went to an independent FCS status. When CUSA was formed out of the merger of the Great Midwest and Metro, they joined FBS (or 1-A as it was then known).

This Gamecock is very excited for this add since google maps says my house is exactly 2 hours from Delaware’s football stadium

Not a problem for Delaware or Tarleton.

Why is it the NCAA et al. Have put 5 million to join the fbs all the while the top conferences are consolidating in preparation of separating themselves from the rest.

Why is it the NCAA et al. Have put 5 million to join the fbs all the while the top conferences are consolidating in preparation of separating themselves from the rest. The attendance requirement was hardly inforced, so it was a poor excuse to not invite or allow an FCS team into the FBS. But a lump sum of $5M being due up front is a much bigger hurdle for schools who don't deserve to move up. Essentially, it was to stop the ASUN and WAC from moving up as a collective without outright forbidding it.

If the ASUN and WAC successfully move up, what's to stop the MVFC and Big Sky from moving up? If FCS conferences are just jumping to FBS at will, how long until the P5 takes its ball and starts a different league? The higher fee was about protecting the status quo.

Do you believe the sec and BIG are adding all these teams just to stay in the fbs? They are leaving with all the best schools to form a new entity where they don't have to share their income.

I'm not making the case that isn't going to happen. I'm saying FCS leagues forcing their way into the FBS would cause it to happen faster.
