Aug. 31 | vs. Coastal Carolina Sept. 7 | at Louisville Sept. 14 | at Eastern Michigan Sept. 21 | vs. Southern Miss (Homecoming) Bye Oct. 4 | at Kennesaw State (Friday) Oct. 9 | vs. New Mexico State (Wednesday) Bye Oct. 23 | vs. Middle Tennessee (Wednesday) Oct. 30 | at Liberty (Wednesday) Nov. 9 | at LaTech Nov. 16 | vs. FIU Nov. 23 vs. Sam Houston Nov. 30 | at Western Kentucky NOTES- Love that the conference gave us a pair of byes around the weekday schedule. As we saw last year, that can be a gauntlet.
- CUSA also did us a huge favor by putting us on the road again on Iron Bowl weekend. I also appreciate them not forcing our rivalry game with Kennesaw to be that weekend. Neither of us can can draw a crowd or audience while UAT/Auburn and UGA/GT are playing.
- Love having Kennesaw a Friday night road game with Kennesaw. They won't be able to invite recruits because they'll be playing at the same time.
- We'll miss UTEP this cycle.

Observations and questions:
1. Outstanding non-conference schedule for a G5.
2. Wish JSU was playing at home again on Week 0. Hey ESPN!! Move the Coastal Carolina (or FIU) game up a week and put it on ESPN2 at 6PM.
3. Sounds like some of you want to develop a rivalry with KSU. What's your guys opinion on playing KSU every year on Black Friday? Maybe 5:00, gives time for anyone that wants to do early bird shopping. Even when it is at KSU a lot of people would drive to that. I doubt KSU wants to compete on that Saturday against Georgia vs Georgia Tech. Win/win? Plus it gives an extra day before the CUSA conference championship game the next Friday. What do you think?

We don't ever need to be home on Black Friday or the day after. Campus empties out for Thanksgiving week. People will choose shopping over our home game. Our rivalry can and should exist outside of Rivalry Week.

I had pretty much the same observations and opinions about this schedule. The timing of those byes is HUGE, and being on the road Iron Bowl Saturday is not a bad thing at all. (I do wish it were a more distant opponent than WKU, but beggars can't be choosers.) As for the game against Kenny: - I hate Friday night college football games during the high school regular season.
- I. Hate. Them.
- At least this way Kenny won't have to rent out the Braves' stadium to contain the crowd.
- You're absolutely right about the Owls not being able to use this game for recruiting. That is a plus.
- It may be the only plus. I was really hoping this game would be on a Thursday if it had to be midweek.
- My opinion has fluctuated a little over time, but I tend to agree with the idea of NOT putting this game on Rivalry Weekend, whether it's on Black Friday or not. I think the best case scenario would be a Saturday game in early November, around where the La Tech game falls this year. Since Delaware will be coming on board in 2025, though, we'll have to see what that does to the overall schedule.

If JSU's is guaranteed a road game the last Saturday of the season, that works out great.

I'll admit, I thought the schedule drop video showed some creativity from a "marketing" standpoint (there's that word again). The quick shot of HCRR puffing on a cigar was cool. IMO, tip of the hat to the social media folk/s who put this together, keep it coming!
Regarding the Kenny game, ooph that's gonna be a short week to get ready for the Wed night game.

Re: the video - I agree. Re: the short turnaround - Yeah... we have forever between Southern Miss and Kenny, then what... 5 days to get ready for NMSU? That bites. I'm not too worried about the lack of prep time -- from what I understand, Rich Rod's strategy is more "prep your own system, not your opponent's" -- but losing two days of rest/recovery time sucks. At least we face the Aggies at home, so we don't lose a day for travel.

From a selfish standpoint, this means the Southerners Reunion is very late….the week before Thanksgiving. Sometimes makes it tough for people to travel two weekends in a row. On the plus side, most band competitions are done by then, so the bad directiors among us are more likely to be able to attend….

Opening game moved up to Thursday August 29th. Oof. I mean, there's a lot to like about a Thursday night in late August -- it's a night game under the lights instead of the sun; it'll break in freshmen right by treating them to a Thursday night game before they pack the suitcase and head home to mama; good chance of upgraded TV exposure. But for alumni traveling in from elsewhere, it's tough. And for Southerners, it's kind of a kick in the shins. That game would've been Band Day, had it remained on Saturday. The next home game is Sept. 21, which is Homecoming. Then you have a month of midweek games for October. That leaves only Nov 16 and Nov 23. One of those will be the Southerners reunion. The other will be 5 days before Thanksgiving. Both are about two weeks or so after most all the high school kiddies have put up their marching shoes for the season. Again, oof. But we've been through something like this before, in 2009, I believe. The first four games were all on the road, so we wound up with no home games available for Band Day, so we just picked a Saturday in early September and did it without the game. It works fine for the band, but the football team misses out on all the extra fans, and PVHS and whoever else profits from concessions will take a hit. But it'll be fine. UPDATE: Dr. B says Band Day '24 will be on Sept. 21, after all. Same day as Homecoming and Preview Day. That'll be fun. Ooof.

Only three Saturday home games this year . No need to order season tickets. This move up is really saving me money

More mid week games the better in my book.
