A few other things I've heard are that the field won't be shifted due to cost, as doing so would require the entire side of the stadium to be rebuilt. The old press box will be torn down after this season (I'll believe it when I see it). The are going to try adding some open air suites to that side line as well. I'm hoping it something like Miss States "The Balconies".

There's a lot we could do with that side short of building some massive expansion right now.
Really need a nice bathroom/concession facility. New seating.
I'd like to see an area where you can walk around and hang out with a beer with a bar height rail or something. If you've ever been to Protective or Regions Field in Birmingham, you know what I'm talking about. Maybe have a shaded area with tables in the footprint of the pressbox?
Back when we still had the red seats, I preferred to sit over there, and will return once it is habitable again.

I'm hoping it something like Miss States "The Balconies". I'm disappointed by the axing of the field shift. I mean, I understand the cost, but it seems like it could be done without rebuilding the entire stadium side. It'd definitely require a LOT of demo, though, so maybe that's where the cost would become prohibitive. As for The Balconies idea... I love it. But did they mention where the Balconies would go? On one hand, it makes sense to put them between the 40s (Sections D & E, basically replacing the old pressbox and "red seats"). But Mississippi State put their balconies closer to the end zones instead. If we go with State's idea, instead of putting the Balconies in Sections D and E, they'd go in Sections A and H/I. The benefit is, it puts this "premium" seating option in sections which would otherwise site empty. H & I are designated for the visiting band, but when it's needed, that designation could be shifted to Section G or Section B instead (depending on the size of the band). With each end of the north stands now filled, the University could put reserved chairback seating in Sections D-E. Sections B, C, F, and G would remain general admission bleachers. Alternately, you could put "The Balconies" on one end and an open air "lounge" area on the other. Section A would be great for this. Re-do the northwest concession/restroom area and make the Section A lounge area part of the design. (You could then control access to the lounge area to those who are old enough to imbibe, if you wanted to make this a beer garden or whatever.) Here's a good photo of the north stands for reference. The northwest concession is at the top, closest to the old field house. Sections D and E are the old red seats. Sections H & I are closest to the northeast concessions/visitor locker rooms, in the same corner of the end zone where the Southerners sit.

Well, I heard it directly from someone pretty high up the chain... I was told it is a lot more foundational work than you would think. Even if you lop off the bottom few rows, you have to put in a foundation that will hold up the rest of the bleachers and the hill and trustee circle.
I agree one of the reason so few people choose to sit over there (aside from the direct sun during afternoon games and lack of seats at present) is the old bathrooms and concession stands. They really need to find a way to add another set of bathrooms and concession options. The need to look into removing the parking spaces from the stadium side of trustee circle as well as in front of the east end of Fitzpatrick to shift the circle slight north. This could open up more room for a sort of concourse. Add these patio suite at the top of the stands, taking up several of the top rows of seats (similar to what they did with the wheel chair viewing area but larger) and add some sort of awning above them to help with the sun a bit.

This is the rendering of the Football Complex as shown at the 900 Club meeting just before the season started. It shows the home sideline even with the new building. I hope they can keep it that way.
( I am about to give up! I have posted pictures before but it will not work anymore! Help. It is a .jpg image)

Looking at a satellite image of the stadium, I just don't think there's any room to build from the stadium toward the Quad, even if Trustee Circle were re-routed. The biggest issue is Fitzpatrick Hall. It just mucks everything up.
Building up and toward the field is probably the best bet for any improvements on the north stands. The old pressbox takes up about 8 rows of bleachers in Sections D and E. If you were to extend that footprint the entire width of the north stands, you'd lose maybe as much as a couple thousand seats, but you'd have all sorts of room for new amenities like a new centrally located concession stand, patio suites, a shade canopy, and a couple of camera platforms.
(Actually, a shade canopy could only do so much on this side. The sun tends to set southwest of the stadium, meaning it would always be in the faces of those seated on this side. A video board or some other structure above the new Football Operations Center would probably do more to provide shade, at least in the afternoon.)

Is there any real update or news about the stadium? All I gather is to expect less. I'd be happy if I got my seat back and some shade would be a huge blessing.
